For the past week, there had been rumors going around that there was a new kid coming to Gotham High, this was big news since no one ever transferred to any of Gotham's schools. But what made these rumors fly higher than any other, was the fact that the boy who was coming was the notorious Damian Wayne. Bruce Wayne had announced that he had another child almost three years before, that he hadn't released it to the public when he was born because his mother had been so ill that they had to leave Gotham to get her to better doctors. The story hadn't been fully dug into so barley anyone knew about the heir to Bruce Wayne. What the citizen of Gotham did know was that he was the spitting image of Bruce Wayne, but there had been rumors that his eye color was that of his mothers and he shared her attitude and confidence. The first few years where hectic, every news crew wanted a picture or an interview with Damian, though they couldn't ever find him. Eventually it got out of control and nasty things were being said about the family. Bruce ignored these taunts and went on with his life, hiding his son from the citys' watchful eye. However when someone dared to accuse Bruce of depriving his son, saying that he would get no where in life without properly being educated, he announced that Damian would be going to school at the start of the second semester.
When he had announced that the school went into an uproar, they hadn't had a Wayne in the school since Timothy, and that had been a number of years ago. Everyone was wondering who's classes he'd be in, who he'd talk to, what were the things he would get into? So when the first day after winter break came, most of the kids hurried to their classes, talking with their friends about what they had done over the break. But the main topic was Damian Wayne.
Jon was probably one of the only kids who wasn't freaking out over the fact that a Wayne was coming to the school, though he was excited to see a new face. He hoped that maybe he could be friends with the new kid, he didn't have many since he moved here a few years back. He heard the first bell ring and he hurried from his locker to class. He had Mrs. Bradly for first period, and she was someone you didn't want to make mad. He quickly sat down in his seat and pulled out his notebook and pencil. Soon enough the other children began to pour into the classroom, one kid ran in quickly right as the bell rang, going to his seat. Jon looked around the room, wondering if the new kid might be in his home room, he frowned a bit when he didn't see him.
About ten minutes into class a boy walked into the room casually. He had on a white button up with a black jacket over it. His hair was spiked up and his bag was slung over his shoulder, "Is this Mrs. Bradly's' class?" he asked boredly as he looked around the room, a light accent laced his voice as he spoke. Mrs. Bradley stopped writing on the white board and looked over at him, she set down the expo marker and gave him a small, sweet smile.
"Ah, you must be Damian, I see you got lost?" she asked looking at him. Damian just nodded slightly, glancing off to the side. Mrs. Bradly nodded, not loosing her smile, "Class, this is Damian Wayne, I want you all to be nice to him and if he needs anything, help. Take a seat at any empty desk." she said as she went back to writing English terms on the board.
Jon watched him as he walked farther into the classroom, the other students had all started whispering, Jon wasn't surprised. This school was practically built on rumors, gossip, and fights. His eyes widened a bit as he saw Damian start to walk towards him, he had an empty seat by him, was Damian going to sit by him? Jon quickly moved his bag out of the aisle so he could walk, Damian merely shot him a glance as he passed him, going to the seat behind him instead of next to him.
Jon smiled a bit, he was going to turn to talk to him but the girl next to him beat him to it. "So, you're Damian Wayne." She said with a slight smile.
Damian just nodded and pulled out his notebook, looking at the teacher. The girl huffed and tried to get his attention again, "Are you glad to be here? Do you like it so far?" she asked him sweetly.
Damian glanced at her, "Will you be quiet? I'm trying to listen to the teacher." he said before he turned back and looked at Mrs. Bradly. the girl puffed out her cheeks and crossed her arms, muttering something about him being rude. The class passed by quickly, the teacher explained a few things about the project that they were going to start in a few days and how they all needed to find a partner within the next four days. The bell rang and the kids piled out of the class, Jon stood up and looked at Damian.
"H-Hi, I'm Jon, I just wanted to let you know that if you needed anything, you can ask me." he said proudly as he fixed his glasses. Damian raised an eyebrow as he looked him up and down. Jon suddenly got nervous, what if he told him off like the girl from earlier? What if he made fun of him?
Damian nodded slightly, "Sure." he said simply before grabbing his things and heading out of the class looking at his schedule to see where he was to go next. Jon smiled to himself before hurrying out and heading to his next class. He ended up not seeing Damian the rest of the day. He thought he had seen him walking in the hall but he hadn't been very sure.
A few days passed without either of the boys saying a single word to each other, Jon didn't want to smother him and Damian just wasn't social. Jon had come to figure out that not many people had even tried to talk to him after what had happened. A rumor had been flying around that Damian had yelled at a group of boys and had almost fought them. Then it changed into he did fight them, then that he sent one of them to the hospital and that he was on life support. Jon didn't want to believe the rumors so he tried to ignore them, but he still wondered if it was true-
"Jonathan! are you paying attention?" asked Mrs. Bradly as she crossed her arms. A few of the kids snickered and his face turned bright red as he nodded. "Alright, I hope you all have your partners and topics. And since Jonathan decided not to pay attention, ill check your group first." she said as she walked over.
Jon looked at her and gave her a small smile, he didn't have a topic, he didn't even have a partner! She crossed her arms and looked at him, waiting for an answer. "W-Well I-" he stuttered out before he was cut off.
"Jon is my partner, we're doing our project on Shakespeare and his plays, is that alright Mrs. Bradly?" asked none other than Damian Wayne himself. She nodded and walked away, going to check the other groups. Damian rolled his bright green eyes and went back to writing in his notebook.
Jon was surprised, he turned to look at Damian, giving him a a wide eyed look. "Uh, thanks but... now you're stuck being my partner. you know that, right?" he asked him, making sure he understood that now Damian was stuck with him for the next two weeks.
Damian nodded as he looked up at him, "I know. Is that problem?" He asked him as he raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to answer. he watched as Jon's face turned a bit red and he shook his head quickly.
"N-Not at all! I had.. actually wanted you to be my partner but.. I didn't think you'd want to be.." he confessed as he looked off to the side. He held onto the back of the chair as he looked down at the floor, biting the inside of his cheek as he thought about how stupid that had sounded.
Damian just nodded as he looked down at the paper again, "Well, our topic is Shakespeare, i believe it would be in our best interest if we did it where we put his plays in order and showed the change through them. I believe that will make it better than simply writing about his life." he said right before the bell rang. Damian stood up and grabbed his stuff, neatly putting it in his bag. He slung the bag over his shoulder and handed Jon a small slip of paper, "Ill pick you up around six so we can get started." he said as he went and left the class, not bothering to wait for Jon's answer.
Jon looked down at the paper, realizing it was Damian's number. He blushed and smiled as he stood up and grabbed his things. His smile brightened as he walked out, knowing that he would see Damian more often. Maybe this school wasn't so bad after all.
