The first time he had met the newest boy wonder was when he was around fifteen or sixteen. He was at the tower sitting on the couch and talking to a few of the others when Dick walked in with the new Robin. He had been so shy, trying to hide behind Dick but also trying to look like he fit in with the other heroes. Dick had called them all over to introduce them to the newest addition to the Batfamily. Roy had laughed a bit and ruffled his hair, throwing an arm around the smaller boy. Jason had blushed lightly and quickly tried to fix his hair. Later that night Dick had invited Roy to go on patrol with him, he had brought Jason with them for the first time. It had been a quiet night so they mostly hung out on the rooftops and talked about the days that had passed. Roy had been proud of himself when he cracked a joke and Jason had snickered at him. he had been trying all day to get him to laugh.

Jason would come and stay at the tower whenever Bruce went off, he knew that Jason would try to go off on his own, or Dick would stay at the manor and invite Roy over since they were partners. It had been a few months since he had met the boy wonder and he had only gotten to know a few facts about him. Roy had been walking down the halls of the manor one of those nights, it was a blur to him as to why he was but he had been up. Suddenly there was a faint whimpering noise coming from behind one of the doors. He frowned and went to it, opening it and heading in. It was Jasons' room, he was laying in bed, tears streaming down his face as he kept mumbling in his sleep. Roy frowned and headed over, sitting on the bed and slowly rubbing his back. Jason eyes had shot open and he sat up quickly, breathing heavily. He saw Roy and tried to stutter out an excuse, but he was cut off when Roy had grabbed him and pulled him into a hug. He rubbed his back and slowly rocked him, not asking for an explanation as to what he had been dreaming about. Jason had buried his face in his shoulder and had bawled his eyes out, he had soon calmed down and fell asleep in Roys' arms. Roy had laid him down on the bed and covered him up, staying there until he woke up. He didn't explain the next morning.

It had been a full year since they had met and Jason had started to act strange. Whenever Roy entered the room he would instantly avert his gaze from him. Roy would always sling his arm around people, and anytime he did it with Jason, he wold blush and look away, inching closer. And that's where the teasing started. Dick would make kissing noises when Jason started to talk to Roy, causing Jason to blush and look away from him. He would always get so mad when they did that, he'd huff and glare at them and throw snide comments their way. But if Roy did it, he said nothing, he would turn bright red and try to stutter an excuse to leave, especially when he called him Jaybird.

It was about 6 months after that when there had been a knock on Roy's door at about 1 in the morning. Roy had groggily gotten up to answer it, he threw on some sweatpants to look a little bit decent, he ran his fingers through his hair as he opened the door. He had expected it to be Dick wanting to go hang out like usual, the kid dint have ant clue what beauty sleep was. But he was shocked to find a wide, teary eyed Jason standing there in one of Dicks old hoodies, his eyes were blotchy from crying and it was obvious that he had tried to wipe the tears away before he went to the door. Jason tried to stutter something out but he was cut off by a sob that racked his chest, Roy quickly put his arm around him and led him into the room, shutting the door behind him. Roy helped him up onto the bed and wrapped his arms around him as he sat down. Jason fell into his chest and sobbed, wrapping his shaky arms around him, clinging to the red head. They stayed like that for an hour, Roy just holding the shaking boy and Jason trying his best to calm down and stop his tears. Roy didn't expect him to explain why he had been crying, so he didn't ask. But Jason was going to tell him anyways.

Jason pulled back a bit and looked down, fiddling with the bottom of his shirt. "I- It was my Mom.." he started, Roy kept his arms around him, not interrupting. "Before Bruce took me in.. I lived on the streets. That's how he found me, I was trying to steal his wheels of the Batmobile, almost had it to but he caught me. My dad left when I was little so it was just my mom and I.. and she.. she did some bad things. She never hit me or anything but.. she did a lot of drugs. A- And this one time she got real sick, and the only way I could take care of her was to steal. So I did. But it got so bad... R- Roy.. it was s- so bad I-" he had to stop to catch his breath. Roy rubbed his back, hoping he would finish but at the same time not wanting him to cry anymore than he already had. "I- I had to watch her die Roy.. for three days a- and I couldn't do a damn thing. I- I tried so hard. B- But I couldn't- I couldn't-" Roy cut him off by pulling him close and just holding him. Sometimes saying nothing was okay. Jason fell asleep not long after that from exhaustion. Roy held him the whole night, the next morning he got up and told Bruce that Jason was going to take the day off, Roy headed back to the room and held him until he woke up the next day.

Jason was 15 when Roy gave him his first drink. Roy had been sitting on the couch in the Towers living room when Jason had walked in. He was watching some random show on the TV, he was leaning back on the couch with a beer in his hand and a six pack on the table, he had his feet propped up on the table even though Starfire always yelled at him about it. When he heard him come in he looked back at him and just raised his beer a bit before drinking it, Jason raised an eyebrow and hopped over the couch, sitting next to him. "You know that's not good for you." Said Jason after a few seconds of silence, he had been watching him for a bit.

Roy rolled his eyes and drank some more, "Stop judging me, ever drank some?" he asked him. Jason shook his head no and Roy chuckled as he popped one open and handed it to him. Jasons' eyes widened under his mask as he took it. "I wont tell anyone Jaybird, secrets safe with me. But if you don't want to I won't make you." he said softly. Jason thought for a minute before taking a sip, he pulled it away from his mouth and made a sour face. Roy chuckled and commented something about how he couldn't hold his liquor. Jasons' cheeks turned bright red in embarrassment, so he did the logical thing and chug the whole bottle and reached for another. Roy's eyes widened as he watched him, he quickly grabbed the bottle and his hand, "Whoa there Jay, calm down kid. You're gunna get smashed." he said with a laugh. But Jason was determined to show Roy he could do it, he managed to pull from his grip and grab two beers, he took them and ran off. Roy's eyes widened as he sat his drink down and ran after him, tripping a bit. "Jay! Get back here!" he called as he chased him. Jason locked himself in one of the bathrooms so Roy couldn't get to him, Roy groaned as he waited for him to come out.

Ten minutes passed before he did, Jason opened the door and burped as he stumbled out into Roys arms. He looked up at him and giggled, wrapping his arms around his neck pulling himself up and wrapping his legs around his waist. Roy had to put his hands under his thighs to keep him from falling, he rolled his eyes and carried him to his own room so that he could keep an eye on him. But about halfway there Jason kissed him out of nowhere, Roys eyes widened as he did so, not expecting it. Jason pulled him closer as they walked, Roy didn't know how to react to that and he couldn't exactly push him away at the moment. He made it to his room and opened the door and went to his bed, trying to set him down. But Jason wasn't having it. He held onto him tighter as Roy tried to lay him down, he eventually got him to lay down. Jason was buzzed off his ass as he hummed and snuggled into the blanket and sighed. Roy blushed and sighed as he covered him up, letting him sleep in his bed.

15. He was only fifteen when The Joker beat him almost to death, then exploded the building he had been in, finishing the job and killing him. Roy had gotten the call a few days after, he hadn't even known that Jason was missing at the time, he had assumed that he was out on a stake out. Dick had called him and he had answered cheerfully, but his demeanor changed when he heard his voice. Dick told him what had happened, that he'd never see Jason again. And that Batman didn't plan on killing The Joker for what he had done. Roy had hung up the phone, he was shaking and freaking out all at the same time. Only a few months prior was the first time Jason had drank, the first time they had kissed. And the last. Over the course of those months Roy had figured out that he had feelings for the new Boy Wonder. Over the next year or so Roy was at a blank, he went on missions he knew he couldn't handle alone, he drank a bit more than normal, barley remembering what he had done the night before. He was a mess, and now.. He wasn't so sure if he should allow the bad guys to live when he caught them. But he would visit Jason's grave as often as he could, sitting and talking to the dumb headstone that had his name on it, leaving Jason's favorite flowers and reading the newest issue of his favorite comics. He had realized it too late that he needed Jason, that he loved him. And now he could never say it. Jason was the one that made him smile a bit more than normal. He was the one that gave Roy a reason to crack his stupid jokes no one liked. He had always been there for Roy, making him drink less. Taking his mind off of things that brought him down. He had made him a better person. It had always been him..
