The atmosphere in the room was tense, but I needed to know why Ducky did it, I needed to know if Ducky knew what he was doing, if he knew what the consequences were.
"Well?" I questioned him
"What do you want to know?" He said questionably
"Everything that you know" I paused "Starting with why, why Ducky, did you know that it would ruin them?"
Ducky paused, he was thinking about what to say "Yes" he said after awhile "Yes, I knew the consequences of my actions, and so did everyone else that terrible night"
"Why, why do it Ducky?"
"It was the only thing we could do Ziva, we had to do it" Ducky paused "Would you have preferred them to die in that accident, and not live to see another day? Or, would you do what we did, we saved them"
I thought about it for awhile, I would have done what they did "Did they have to put them into hiding?"
"Yes, it is for their own good, if anybody knew they were alive then their lives would be threatened"
"Why couldn't they tell him?" I questioned "He is blamed, he was kicked out of the family"
"Just like you Ziva, he made a choice, you were both disowned because you made a choice, a choice that has kept you both alive and fighting to this day, if he knew, then what would happen?" Ducky paused "He wouldn't still be alive, he would be long gone, we would never have met him, we would have never met, a lot of things would be different if we didn't do what we did that night, that day"
Ducky was right, if people knew then lots of things would not have happened, I would have never betrayed my family, I also wouldn't have gone against orders and be who I am today, I wouldn't have met my family, a lot of things would be different, some good some bad, some people wouldn't be here whilst some would still be here.
I was about to speak but Ducky interrupted me
"Now, how did you acquire this information Ziva?" He asked "Who told you?"
"No-one told me" I answered
"What do you mean, this was confidential, need-to-know business" Ducky questioned sternly
"No-one told me, when I was sent back to Israel I was in one of the file rooms of Mossard when I first arrived there" I paused "I don't know much as I had to flee. I had to leave. NCIS and other agents were after me, and when I found out that information I did, I knew I had to find the truth, I had to find them" I spoke, memorizing the day I found the file on the shelves.
I walked along one of the long isles of the Mossard file room, confidential, need-to-know files lined the shelves, as I scanned the shelves I noticed an old, tattered file that was left un-opened, and looked un-touched by anyone for years, it was on the top shelf in isle 42G, so I reached up and took hold of it, the file dated back to 1990's, I would have been around the age of 10 when this file was produced. As I pulled the sealed file off the shelf I realised how bulky it actually was, and so I had to use both my hands to bring it down onto the table behind me.
Normally I don't do anything with the files, I just look at them and realise how many cases that have been completed or unfinished have taken place over the years of Mossard, but this file was different, this file didn't look original, it looked copied, it intrigued me.
As I placed it on the table I looked at the file closely, it was different from the other files I had seen before in Mossard, this looked like a file from a different agency. The font type on the front was definitely not our agency's font, the stamps used different ink and so the file lured me in.
I pulled out my knife from my belt and slid it across the top of the file, breaking the red tape that sealed it shut, once the tape was broken I took out the large, overflowing file that was inside the envelope. What surprised me the most at first glance was the writing, the language was no longer Hebrew, the language was English, and on top of the file were different stamps from different agency's across the world; Mossard, NIS, CIA, FBI, MI7, MI9, and many more, agencies. I wondered why so many agencies were working together, the answers to that question lied right at my finger tips, and so I opened up the file...
"Well the least you know the better" Ducky spoke "But this is you we are talking about, and you never do give up"
"You're right Ducky, I have found this information out and I am going to look into it" I paused "There is no going back"
I turned and started to go out the door
"Wait a moment Ziva" Ducky shouted "Let me get changed and we will go to meet the others together"
I waited as Ducky changed out of his autopsy overalls and into his shirt, tie and trousers.
"Right off we go" Ducky said cheerily as we got into the elevator
The rest of the elevator ride was silent, and so was the walk to Ducky's Morgan. On the way to his car we had to make sure the camera's and people didn't see me, which was easier as it seems as I already had it planned out where the camera's were, and luckily not many people were in the office as it was now late evening.
"If you're finding more about which I presume you are, then I am in" Ducky said as we sat in his car as he pulled out of the Navy Yard and drove to Gibbs' house.
"Are you sure Duck?" I asked
"Yes, I don't regret what I did, but I think the time is right to re-unite them and tell the world what actually happened" He paused "You probably know that many agencies were in on this op, but you must realise not many people were in on it, we needed different agencies help, as they all are experts in different things, that is why I was asked to join"
We arrived at Gibbs' shortly after Ducky spoke, as we opened Gibbs' un-locked front door Ducky said
"For the time being Ziva, this still needs to be low key"
I nodded in response and we walked towards the basement where everyone was sitting on work benches. As I walked down the stairs memories of what happened in this basement came to me, the first one being the first ever memory: me shooting my brother Ari in order to save Gibbs.
Tony's loud voice cut me off my thoughts as I reached the bottom of the stairs.
"Ziva, what do you want to say?"
I walked over to a seat by the new boat Gibbs was making and sat down,
"Well it's a long story..." and so I explained to them how I got to the NCIS autopsy table and why I ended up there, leaving out information like the what the file contained and other things, and to sum it up I spoke "I need to find some information and clear up some lose ends"
