The Green-Leaf sun blazed vibrantly in the clear blue canvas of the sky as the little black she-cat followed her two brothers through the tall ferns. Bird song echoed through the wind and gave the world music, tweeting from their perches within the canopy of the towering pine trees. Needles littered the earth as the three young cats trotted onward toward the marshlands to hunt. The pine trees began to thin out as they drew closer.

"Do you smell any frogs, Bloodkit?" The little long-haired she-cat mewled curiously, her bright blue eyes lively and joyful. Her older littermate, a dark tabby tom, looked back over his shoulder at his sister.

"Not yet, Brokenkit." He replied, slightly irritated. His crimson eyes glanced coldly at his younger brother, Wolfkit, who pretended not to be paying any mind to his other siblings.

Brokenkit snorted in exasperation, her purple smudged nose twitching as she scented the air for herself. Nothing. Releasing a heavy sigh, Brokenkit scampered over to Wolfkit and let her billowing midnight fur brush along his short black and white splotched fur.

Wolfkit strained his neck and lapped at his sister's ear with his rough, pink tongue. "Oh, don't mind Bloodkit. He's just in one of his moods again." The slender tom whispered soothingly, blinking his glacier-blue oculars calmly. Brokenkit released a purr, proud that her and her younger littermate had always gotten along so much better than Bloodkit had ever been with either of them.

"He's always in a mood. It's like his eyes scare all happiness away!" The fluffy she-cat joked, snickering with Wolfkit.

"Would you two shut-up back there!?" Bloodkit whipped around and snarled angrily, his tail slicing through the air to and fro. The black stripes along his pelt rippled along with his muscular frame, intimidating both of his smaller littermates. "I'm trying to catch us some food! Some of us are starving, ya know?!" He added frigidly, his eyes sinister and narrowed as he glowered down at the younger cats.

Brokenkit's ears burned hot in shame, struggling against the will to retaliate at her brother's sheer dominance. But her and Wolfkit held their tongues bravely, sharing agitated looks.

Bloodkit held their stares for a few more fiery moments, then he whirled around and stalked onward, pricking his ears and flaring his nostrils as he desperately tried to find prey.

Brokenkit flattened her ears and sat back glumly, her slim 6-moon old figure hunched over as she glared down at her petite paws. She felt a tail entwine with her own and she lifted her head to see Wolfkit gazing down at her, concern glittering in his enticing irises.

"Try not to let him get to you, Brokenkit. He's trying to take care of us. Maybe we should look for something ourselves?" He suggested light-heartedly, a friendly sparkle passing over his facial features. Brokenkit's spirit lifted immediately, a purr escaping her throat again. Wolfkit was right. She couldn't let a grouchy cat like Bloodkit ruin everything for herself. I have Wolfkit and he's my world! Brokenkit thought to herself, silently bounding away from Bloodkit with Wolfkit flanking her at every paw step. They soon exited the marshlands and came upon a new forest of giant oak and maple trees. The pine trees rose at their backs, but what intrigued the two young cats is the strong scent of other cats. Scent markers lined the ground formally, and it smells harsh and tangy, as if they had been recently renewed.

"Wow! The scent kind of reminds me of mama... Even though I can't really remember her anymore." Brokenkit murmured wonderously, creeping up to the scent line and sniffing it cautiously, as if strange cats would leap out at them any second. Wolfkit followed his sister close behind, his neck hairs bristling ever-so-slightly.

"Whatever did happen to mama? She never came back for us..." He responded almost inaudibly, his eyes clouding over very briefly before returning back to their previous curiousity. Brokenkit didn't even really remember her mother's face, let alone her own father's face. She just remembered going out into the forest one twilight evening with her littermates at 2 moons old, following their mother swiftly into the depths of the pine trees. Their mother had told them to go hide and they were not to reveal themselves no matter what. But their mother never came back for them. They've had to fend for themselves ever since. They've all grown pretty accustom to surviving on their own in the wilderness, without others to help raise them and parent them. As far as Brokenkit was concerned, she and her brothers were orphans.

"I don't know, Wolfkit... But I wonder what cats would be living around here?" Brokenkit pondered with a small tilt of her round head, her translucent whiskers quivering vigorously in anxiety.

"They are vicious cats! Stay away from them!" An unfamiliar meow made the two littermates jump, hackles rising in alarm. They both twisted around to spot a large black silhouette perched upon a neighboring boulder right outside the scent lines, the sun sizzling brightly in the background. Brokenkit and Wolfkit backed away frantically, their eyes stretched wide in fear and surprise.

"W-who are you!?" Brokenkit mewed nervously, unshealthing her claws and fluffing out her long, black pelt. Wolfkit bared his teeth and growled in false bravery, the fear still lingering in his icy gaze. Brokenkit admired him for his courage despite being so small for his age.

The large cat jumped down into the dimmer light, revealing a handsome ginger tom with black and white patches and striking goldenrod eyes as beauitful as honey. His voice was rich as the words rolled off his tongue. "I am Sol."
