Chapter 4

(Katriona's POV)

I had the strangest dream as I slept. A dream where I was running in pitch dark and cold place, and behind me was my family's house, I never wanted to stay in that horrible place with the dreadful people contained inside. I just wanted to run away and live a normal life, then a sudden thought came to my mind... would anyone ever except a monster like me born with a birthmark of destruction? This mark had granted me the attribute of darkness only, which was a bad omen in the history of bringing devastation.

Small memories then flooded into my dream, the days and the years I had grew up in my family's manor, I could only see the existent of my mother and two brothers who resembled her exact features yet had my father's red eyes, who I have never met. My oldest brother only looked at me with disgust in his eyes and ignored me, yet with my youngest brother whos three years younger than me, would pull on my hair and torment me saying I was a mistake to have been born. Was this true? Was I a mistake? These thoughts made me cry every single night.

And finally but not least was my mother.

When I looked in the mirror at my own appearance I saw none of her features, but I didn't know if I looked anything like my father. Mother had royal blonde hair, deep dark green eyes, and held an ominous atmosphere to her.

But whenever it was time for dinner, she would call for me to eat with her. And when I would arrive she would be sat there in a chair without a plate in front of her and watch me eat as she smiles creepily, it would make me feel unsafe, but I continued to eat until I started feeling ill. When I told her I wasn't feeling well she would smile brightly telling me I could leave.

The landscape in front of me then shifted into an open field of multiple vivid flowers, next to the border of my family's land. On which my mother had sent me, and to my surprise, a crystallized stone flower was blooming out from the ground.

It was a rare occurrence as it only feeds upon the life force of plants, well that's what I read in a ruined book with slightly torn pages. it also said that once life was gone in the area the crystallized plant would wither away.

Taking a few steps forward I extend my hand towards the flower, plucking it stone structured leaf, observing as it shatters to ashes. It was then that I broke down into tears as I was reminded of my loneliness " I don't want to be alone. I just want someone to care about me..." as my tears shed, the environment was engulfed in darkness.

I sat there keeling in self-pity before a glowing light caught my gaze.

A beautiful girl, with the prettiest white hair with a horn hidden underneath, and breathtaking red rubied colored eyes, stood there looking directly at me. My appearance might soon change her expression to disgust but I was sadly wrong, how would I explain this, her face expression revealed nothing and only stayed like that.

Before I could say anything my dream had faded, and I awoke in my bedroom. I became sadden seeing the room in front of me and felt my emotions rise within me.

" I see it was only a dream..." I sniffed.

Feeling a sudden tug on my hand, I darted my sight to the right of me.

"Good morning, Lady Katriona."

'Oni's POV'

"Good morning, Lady Katriona," I said to the girl.

Her eyes only widened as her face flushed red before trying to speak, "G-good m-morning G- gin- Ginko" she said in a stuttering tone.

'Notification has gone off. You have now been given a name by your master, bonuses have now been added: +20 resistance to all magic attributes.'

'The next step to becoming a full fledge familiar is doing the contract of bondage'

(A/N: When I say bondage I don't mean the dirty type xD so get that thought out of your head, (some of you) readers lol.)

For some time now I had wondered why liquid had produced itself from Katriona's eyes, so with my left unoccupied hand i reach out gently grabbing onto her cheek, before slowly using my thumb to wipe away her water droplet.

The girl's face only flushed even more of a crimson colour, before spouting words.

"It's not a dream..." she said quietly, placing her hand on mine, seemingly going into a daze.

"Correct, this isn't a dream Lady Katriona, I've also been meaning to ask you something." I said, "why is water producing from your eyes? Is it a malfunction humans have?"

Katriona then snapped from her dazed daydreaming, thinking of a way how to try and word her embarrassing emotion.

"I was upset..." she said sadly, turning her gaze to look at her magenta coloured duvet.

"I had a dream, well more like a nightmare about what happened yesterday, that it didn't really exist at all. And it made me feel really sad that you weren't real, and just a fragment of my imagination."

'System searching for a file know as sadness. Result found, file shown.'

'Sadness: is- (Not much is know of sadness, you can find out this information by observing Katriona or any other living organisms. You can even get thoughts on the subject by reading books, however they are very expensive in this world. Perhaps looking in the Oralee library might benefit you in finding books on sadness.'

"I do not understand" I replied back to the girl.

Katriona then tried her best to try and give an explained statement on sadness.

It's... er... like it's buried under layers of pro-protc."

"Protection?" I said to the girl struggling to pronounce the word.

"Yes that's the word, thank you" she said thankfully. "It's like it feels it under a layer of a protection bubble, before it starts to expand and eventually burst, allowing your... erm, loneliness or upset feeling to flow out."

'installation of emotions is now at 0. 5%'

i only sat there relisting to the notification that had went off, before turning to Katriona. "Lady Katriona has there ever been anything you wanted from somebody, like related to family or someone you know?"

"Yes there has, but i doubt i would ever get it." she said sadly but still gave off a gentle smile. I only look a her and then word out my question.

"And what would that be?"

"Um... perhaps to be embraced, would be my ans-"

With just answer, I tug her towards me, embracing the small figured girl. Katriona's face, up to her ears now heated up. "G-Ginko!?" she said surprisingly.

"This is my thank you Lady Katriona, i have gained new knowledge today because of you. so in return i grant you your desire of an embrace." After i say that, Katriona hugged back strongly and whispered out yet again another thank you.

Hello readers, so i finally came over the 'delete your draft and restart it again scenario,' and just went over the drafts i started with, and merged them together with a lot of changes i hope you enjoyed reading this chapter.
