Walking around Washington Heights at this time of night was dangerous for anyone, but you had to get away. No matter what you did, Nina's father hated you for loving his daughter. She hadn't defended you to him, she even followed you all the way to the club, only for the two of you to get into an argument that ended with you leave.

"Damn, it's hot." You fanned yourself, it was unnaturally hot for the night time, it felt like you were suffocating.

You looked out into the horizon to the New York City skyline. Lit up bu building lights, washing out the stars around it. It was the same in the Heights, but if you went on a building tall enough, you could see it. Abuela taught you that.

In your daze you thought you saw the light in New York City flicker.

You quickly blinked your eyes and shook you head.

You hoped this wasn't what you thought it was, cause if so, the streets were about to get more dangerous.

Much to your fear, you saw the lights flicker again then completely go out. It was like a wave starting from the farthest building and rolling it's way towards you. Every light going out in a matter of seconds. It took out the street light you were standing under out and the wave continued until it stopped at the end of Washington Heights.

A few seconds of silence passed before somebody yelled out their window, "Blackout! Blackout!"

You heard an uproar come from behind you at the club. You realized that the streets weren't flooding with the hundred of people inside. You rushed back, not going too far before the blackout happened.

You thought about NIna. Where she was. Where you hoped she still was.

Looking around the street, you didn't see anyone around, not that you could see.

"Someone open this goddamn door!" You heard from the other side of the club doors. You ran towards it and tried to yank it open. After a few tries, it opened and you rushed to get out of the way, not wanting to get ran over.

Some people were screaming and you tried to get through.

"Nina!" You yelled out, trying to find her. The people around you pushed and prodded, hundreds of people trying to get out of the heated club.

"Nina! Where are you?!" You shouted again. Trying to push through a crowd you couldn't see.

"Y/n?!" You heard her voice behind you and spun around trying to find her.

"Nina!" You yelled one last time reaching out for who you thought was her.

The person turned around, and your smile dissipated. It wasn't her. You turned and again and looked into the crowd.

"Y/-" You heard you name start followed by a series of "stop pushing me"'s and a "help me".

You pushed your way towards her voice, determined to get to her before she ended up on the floor and even worse: crushed.

As you got closer, you saw her signature blue shirt and followed it to her arm. You reached out and pulled her towards you, away from the crowd of people stampeding out of the club. She stumbled into your body, clutching on for dear life as the people around you, dissipated, most of them opting to go around you guys.

"I thought I lost you..." She panted, and even after everyone cleared, she stayed close to you.

You leaned in and placed a kiss to her lips, "You'll never lose me, Nina."
