Chapter 11

It was awkward for Luke, but Luke was used to awkward. Here he was: sitting with vampires, who he’d been raised to believe were his enemies, calmly eating dinner. Of course, he was eating dinner, the vampires were drinking theirs.

Actually, Luke wasn’t the only one eating; the king’s son, Lucien was as well. Apparently, Lucien was conceived when his mother was still human so the prince was half human. Though human-vampire hybrids are common, Lucien was different. He was more vampire than human, since normally the hybrids were weaker. So Luke was surprised to see Lucien take down a dozen of his own men in a training session.

Their dinner was interrupted when a messenger came into the dining hall. He went over to Leonardo and whispered something so low that Luke did not even hear it with his enhanced hearing. Whatever news it was made the King’s eyebrows raise and brought a smile to his face.

King Leonardo was about to say something but his queen gave him a scalding look. While the King was old and grey, Queen Hailey did not look a day over forty years old.

“We do not discuss matters of war at the dinner table, that is for the War Room and the Throne Room only,” she scolded her mate in her heavy German accent. She had obviously heard what the messenger said and it was obviously about the war against the wolves.

Leonardo sighed and continued to drink from the donor standing beside him. Luke’s interest was aroused; he wondered what Leonardo wanted to speak to him about.

A few minutes later, Leonardo stood up and said, “I am done with my meal,” he then looked at Luke, “If you would not mind, Luke, there are matters that must be discussed.”

Though Luke was not finished, he rose and followed the King out of the dining hall. When he walked past Lucien he looked at him and said, “Son?”

Lucien nodded and put down his fork, the six and half foot man got up and led the way to the war room. From behind them they heard Hailey sigh and get up to join them. Since her entire table left the room, she decided she might as well go with them to see what all the fuss was about.

Walking into the War Room, Luke saw the messenger from before standing where Leonardo went to sit down.

“Tell them what you told me,” Leonardo said to the messenger. He nodded and turned to the three others sitting in the room.

“The Alpha Damien and his woman left the castle this afternoon to go to a log cabin in the Alps,” he said. Leonardo turned to Luke and took interest in the surprised look on his face.

“What is it Luke?” the King asked.

Luke blinked, “You said they went to a lob cabin in the Alps?” he asked. The messenger nodded, “You’re sure of this?” Luke asked.

“Yes sir, the couple was followed by our best trackers and they were sure to not be seen,” the messenger confirmed.

A grin broke out on Luke’s face and from the questioning look on Leonardo’s face, Luke answered, “The pack has a secret getaway, you could call it, but no one but the current Alpha knows where it is. The fact that this secret location has been discovered, coupled with the fact that the castle is unprotected; this would be the perfect time to attack.”

Leonardo looked shocked, as did Hailey and Lucien, “Attack? As in tonight?” Lucien asked Luke.

“Of course! We do not know when Damien and his whore will be returning, we need to attack them while they are weak,” Luke answered.

“Yes, I agree! Ready the men, we attack the castle tonight!” Leonardo's voice boomed as he ordered his men.

“Father, you cannot be serious!” Lucien said as vampires scurried around the room. Luke was surprised to see them because they seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.
