Lilith Oakley was born with a gift - or so she was told. In her eyes, this gift was nothing more than a curse with which she had to live.

Lilith was the result of a forbidden love between a demon and a human and inherited the cursed powers of her father which started to manifest when she was just a little child where she used her telekinetic powers to make various pieces of toys float or come to life and conjured up beings made of pure shadows with which she played. Her powers only grew as the years passed, tying into her emotions and feelings.

Afraid of what monster she brought to life, her mother disowned Lilith and she was taken into a mental facility - later revealed to be owned by the secret organization HYDRA. Lilith never knew why her mother disowned her, at her age, she was incapable of understanding truly what her powers meant. She also had never met her father and had no idea who - or what - he was, other than being told at a young age by her mother that the birthmark of three dots connected by an infinity symbol was another thing she inherited from him.

Distressed and unable to block out the thousands of emotions and thoughts protruding her mind due to her growing telepathic and empathic powers, fueled by the sadness of missing her mother and the fear of not knowing what was going on with her, Lilith lost control over her powers and in her demon-like state, destroyed half of the facility before being taken out and captured by HYDRA once again.

Having witnessed a glimpse of her potential, they chose to experiment with the young demon girl with the full intentions of turning her into a weapon no one had ever seen. She became project Pandora - a vessel that came to HYDRA as a gift from the gods with the potential of unleashing great evil onto the world when unlocked, but HYDRA kept the key as they found a way to contain the monster within the scared young child with their experiments.

As S.H.I.E.L.D. received word of this new project which could potentially destroy the world, agents Romanoff and Barton sent in to try and get hold of the project - they assumed they were going to face a super soldier or another type of weapon, but what they found was a scared young girl with glowing black eyes. The duo managed to calm the girl down and coax her to come with them to S.H.I.E.L.D. with the promise that she was going to be safe. Being the subject of experimentation and torture, the girl chose to stay innocently gullible and trusted the pair, managing to escape from the HYDRA facility.

But despite what Romanoff and Barton had promised the young girl, S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury judged that the girl - who had been trained as a weapon under project Pandora - was too dangerous and had to be locked up for the safety of the world until they figured out what this girl was capable of exactly for HYDRA to take an interest in her. Feeling betrayed by the people who had promised her safety, and terrified of returning to a world of experiments and torture, Lilith lost control over her powers once more and completely destroyed the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility before being captured by HYDRA once more.

Agent Romanoff and agent Barton traced down her whereabouts once more, and made another attempt to break her free - this time not to return to S.H.I.E.L.D. but to give her the freedom she deserved and promised her that, if she kept them updated on her whereabouts in the world and gave them the file with all the information about project Pandora, she would be left alone and they'd ensure neither HYDRA nor S.H.I.E.L.D. would get their hands on her as long as they were alive.

Lilith was hesitant at first, having understood that project Pandora was the weapon HYDRA was trying to turn her into, giving two freelanced agents of an organisation that claimed to want to protect her but seemed to have the same cruel intentions, all the information about her that HYDRA had discovered through experiments and observation, would put her in a very vulnerable state. But she also realized that if she wanted to escape, giving away that information would be the only chance she got. And so, she reluctantly agreed to their terms and managed to help them gain access to the HYDRA database where they copied all the files about project Pandora before deleting them to ensure HYDRA would have no access in the future. After that, Romanoff and Barton kept their end of the deal and helped Lilith escape.

Being left alone in the world at the tender age of now thirteen, Lilith was lost and afraid. She was afraid of the monster she was able to become, afraid of the thousands of voices and emotions coursing through her veins which she was incapable of blocking out. It drove her crazy and she felt herself slipping out of control of the monster she had witnessed herself become on more than one occasion since falling into the hands of HYDRA at a young age. She knew she couldn't stay in one place and for the safety of others as well as herself, she had to stay away from humanity for as much as possible. And so, she disappeared from everyone's radar.

There were only two people Lilith stayed in contact, by choice. Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton, the two agents that helped her escape the claws of HYDRA. She slowly grew a liking to Natasha's tough as nails mentality, though there was always a hint of care in those words, and Clint sarcasm and wit. They helped her get means to survive such as food, clothes, an identity that wouldn't easily be tracked down and met up with her in secret to train her. Both of them saw great potential in the capabilities of the girl, aside from her supernatural powers for which they had no idea what caused them, and figured that with the right discipline she would be able to harness her powers in a beneficial way without her losing control and endangering others. And when the time would come, they had someone to fall back on if the world needed it.

As the years passed, there were times where Lilith had no way of contacting either of the agents as they were off on dangerous and secret missions. It was days like those that she felt were the hardest to deal with, still not being able to block out every thought and emotion that protruded her mind, the girl grew desperate and sought salvation. Alas, as much as she tried it seemed like this gift - née this curse - was hers to carry into eternity.

One day, she received a distress signal from Natasha, requesting her help for a S.H.I.E.L.D. related issue. Lilith was reluctant to respond, not having forgotten the way the organization treated her as a monster much like HYDRA had done. She recalled the promise both agents made her when they broke her out, saying that she would never have to deal with either organization ever again. She knew that if she returned on their radar, she would once again fall into their hands and perhaps never have another chance to escape into freedom - for as much as her curse allowed her to feel free - but Natasha's plea was both convincing and deafening at once.

"Barton has been compromised."
