The sound of drums radiated from the porch roof, but it wasn't necessarily those skin noise makers that was causing this deafening sound. Rain thundered against the tin roof, causing a symphony of noise that was pleasant to her ears, however it was just loud to others.
A blanket wrapped tightly over her shoulders, she began to tiptoe down the stairs, the slight creaks in the old, worn wood was covered by the storm that ravaged outside. "I'm coming, Im coming," She thought, slipping through the empty hallway, her footsteps on the ground floor silent as she hurried to the back door. Wanting to be left alone with her old friend.
As she pushed open the door, it almost slapped back against her as the noise that was slightly muffled through the door, along with the wind throwed itself at her body. Her eyes squinted reflexively as she bunched her shoulders up and slipped out onto the porch. Her woolen socks collecting water that had seeped onto the screen porch.
Though such small things as that could not stop the grin that spread across her face as she openly laughed and called out to the weather, "Hello there my friend! Long time no see!" Whether it was perfectly timed or if it was responding to her directly a bright flash if lightning ran across the sky, immediately followed by a roll of thunder.
Her very being was filled with joy and she let her self fall onto the porch chair, crossing her legs and bunching up the blanket around her as she sat and gave audience to the wonderful symphony it gave off.
The light mist of water coating her features, she sat there for hours, silent and at times jumping and laughing at the rise in the thunder or the heaviness of the water increasing. The collect patterns in the water that fell from the sky up into the gentle trickle as if a lone violen was left to finish off the piece.
Blinking the tiredness from her eyes, she yawned and stretched her arms up to the sky, though her body was weighed with exhaustion it didn't stop the happiness that radiated from her, "Til I see you again," She said to the clearing sky, the slight rays of morning light hitting the tops of the trees.
For no matter what time of day or for how long, if the rain came calling, you would always find the girl sitting on the porch listening and enjoying the show.
