Two Days Later
"Last one!" Sky said as he helped me undo my mic for the last time. "Did you have fun?""Definitely." I stood up and took my Newsies cap off of my head. "It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life."
"What are you gonna to do after this?"
I shrugged, smiling. "I don't know. It'll be fun to get to audition for new things, though."
He nodded. "Yeah. I'm glad you had a good time with us."
"I did. Even when we almost died in that taxi."
"Yeah, that wasn't exactly desirable circumstances, was it?"
"But we've had a good laugh about it. And Ben turned out to be fine."
"He scared me half to death, though."
"Look on the bright side! I got to know DeMarius better, and now he's one of my best friends."
"Also the fact that your remains are not being scraped off the street, but yes, sibling relationships are important too."
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever. We gotta go, and this conversation will not continue in the car."
Sky had agreed to drive me to the airport that night, and DeMarius, Josh, and Ben all demanded to tag along.
We sang at the top of our lungs the entire way there, not caring if we could actually hit the notes or not.
When the time came for me to leave, we exchanged hugs and phone numbers before I went to board the plane.
"Thank you." I said to Sky. "This was amazing."
"I'm glad you had fun, I'm glad you made some new friends,"
"Family." I punched him lightly. "We're family."
"All five of us?" Josh asked, slinging his arm across my shoulders.
"My family from Newsies." I laughed. "Four brothers."
"One little sister." DeMarius patted my head.
"Why am I automatically the little sister?"
Ben rested his elbow atop my head. "Because you're little."
"Flight 134 now boarding." A lady over a speaker announced my departure.
"I love all four of you losers." I smiled at them. "Keep in touch."
I waved goodbye and boarded the plane, suddenly feeling a stab of sadness at my leaving. I'd miss them, I'd miss the show, I'd miss the cake Daveed sent, but I was ready to go home.
And most of all, I was ready to see Oak.
Oak
«can you pick me up from the airport?»
I quickly texted him before the plane took off.
«absolutely. When does your flight get in?»
«10 pm»
«Sorry it's so late.»
«I don't mind.»
«but we won't be able to do anything tonight»«why not?»
«oh, you'd probably be tired»
