I slowed down throughout time and decided to call it a night. It was already ten thirty, so I stopped on the side of the road and we all huddled together with blankets. By now we have  probably just passed the Colorado border into Oklahoma or if I drove a little more east maybe Kansas. Who knows, who cares. Falling asleep was easy and cozy. Blankets were every where and we all were cuddled together shielding each other from the cold fall weather outside. I woke up at seven twenty or so. Slowly getting up from what looked like a dog pile of children in the back of the truck. I started driving down the abandoned road until we reached a small town. I pulled into a half donut shop gas station. Turning around Candy was the only one awake looking out of the window tired. "Come one guys up up, breakfast time." I whispered as Candy and I nudged and poked Ebony, Scott, and Rod. One by one everyone woke up. Rubbing their eyes and yawning. Candy opened the back door and they all got out, making our way into the donut shop either heading straight to the bathroom or going behind the counter looking for plates and napkins. I grabbed juice and milk from a small refrigerator and placed it on the counter jokingly saying "Ah yes my good sir how much will this be?" Rod smiled wide glad to not be so serious, glad the mood wasn't as melancholy as yesterday's. "Mmmmm yes ah that will be twenty billion dollars!" Rod chirped sticking his tongue out at me. I scoffed and slammed two napkins on the marble counter. "Ah yes very good sir very good." Rod said slyly smirking and snatching the napkins. We both burst into a fit of laughter. A couple minutes later Ebony and Candy stepped out of the bathroom and started looking through the donuts packaging a couple boxes while quietly singing Mr Sandman. After thirty minutes of peace we went back to the truck, filling it with gas before getting ready to leave. "Hey Neil, Scott's been in the bathroom a long time I'm gonna go check on him real quick." Ebony quickly said a look of panic across her face. "Yea, sure just take the bat." I replied softly, reminding myself not to say Parker's name scared that I'll burst into tears. We all watched patiently as Ebony entered the donut shop. The silence over the last four or five minutes was deafening. I watched in horror as Ebony came crashing thru the big glass window, tears were streaming down her face as she swung the bat towards Scott. "EBONY!" I shrieked as a ran towards her, life seemed to slow down just how I lost Parker. It's happening again but this time it's my sister. Rod and Candy started running over to, Rod grabbed the bat from Ebony's dying hands and hit Scott as hard as he could with it. Sobs escaped Candy's mouth as she laid Ebony's head in her lap whisper singing some Japanese song, which came out cracked through her tears. Rod with tears welling in his eyes dragged Candy to the back seat of the truck, while she hopelessly watched Ebony on the hard concrete. I fell to my knees profanities of how I could have saved her somehow escaped my lips. Rod came over a couple minutes later dragging me as well.
