General POV
(This is the next night.)

There was nothing but silence in the whole house. Rachelle and Martin had put Henry to bed around an hour or so ago. Or so they thought.

Henry was indeed in bed, but he was not asleep. Something was on his mind, but he couldn't quite explain it. The boy stared up at his ceiling, trying to put his mind at ease for once in his life.

But that seemed impossible for Henry, it seems. The boy got out of bed and walked up to his bookshelf. He reached for his step stool, placing it on the ground before stepping on it.

He grabbed a book at random and looked at the cover. It read 'The little engine that could.' He stepped down from the stool and climbed into his bed.

Henry picked up his stuffed bear from the floor and got out his flashlight. Then he began to read.

Rachelle, who was in the next room, heard the commotion. She got up and walked to Henry's door. "Henry? Honey are you still awake?" She said, peeking through the crack in the door way.

She heard shuffling and a page turning. Meaning the boy was still awake. She opened the door and peeked inside. Her suspicions were confirmed.

The boy was sitting in his bed with his flashlight in hand, reading a book. Henry looked up at Rachelle, startled. He slammed the book shut and turned off his flashlight, putting them on his bedside table.

"P-p-please don't be mad at me!" Henry pleaded. "I-i-i-i c-c-c-can't sleep! That's why I was reading!" Rachelle walked over to him and placed a gentle hand on his back. The boy flinched.

"Honey, I'm not mad." Rachelle whispered. "If you can't sleep, you should always come to Daddy or me. Then we can help you get through this!"

The boy started to sob. Rachelle sat on the bed and pulled the boy into a hug. Henry cried into her shoulder. No one he knew in the years of growing up had ever been nice to him before.

"Now let's see if we can get you back to sleep with another book, shall we?" Rachelle said. The boy looked up at her with hopeful eyes as he nodded his head.

The two cuddled up together and Rachelle read him the book.

A few minutes later...

Henry had fallen asleep to the sounds of Rachelle's hushed but soothing voice. The  woman decided that she was not leaving Henry's side tonight and decided to snuggle with Henry and fall asleep as well.
