Guys it's my birthday on Thursday! I'll be sixteen! Also I entered the Wattys this year and I would be ever so grateful if you guys could support me through this new development in my Wattpad life (I've never joined the Wattys, never had a good enough book). I have so much faith in Amazon and I know that you guys enjoy it, so thank you! :)

Rhea sat atop a horse she had been given to borrow. She supposed she was on lookout duty since Anthea had begged Bastian to take her into town so she could shop. Women needed to have a chaperone, Rhea did not agree with that and it seemed in her warrior gear she was intimidating to those who lived in Athens. Bastian was carefully walking behind Anthea, very worried for her.
“Rhea,” she looked down as Bastian spoke to her, “Please step down from the horse.”
“Why?” She asked him, her voice sharp.
“Because,” Bastian looked down the winding road, guards that Bastian knew from staying in Athens were walking this way. They were the men he had grown up with but that did not mean they would bring mercy unto them. “There are men walking towards us and they will not take too kindly to you upon that horse.”
“Bastian,” she spoke softly in a condescending tone, “You gave me this horse to ride, and it would not do much if I did not ride it.” She slid off the hose, “But because I am already a barbarian in their eyes, I would not want to shame you any more than I already do as I breathe.”
Bastian nodded his head slowly, “Thank you.” He stood beside Rhea as they waited for Anthea; she held a necklace in her hands and smiled at the man who stood behind the stall. She passed him her coins and in return she was given the necklace. It seemed to capture the sun and shine, Rhea had seen many pretty things in her life, it did not bother her.
The soldiers stopped in front of Bastian, Rhea took a deep breath as she looked at them. “Bastian,” one of them spoke and furrowed his eyebrows, as if confused at what he was seeing. Bastian stated the man’s name loudly but Rhea did not quite catch it as she watched a small child, nothing but skin and bones, search for food.
“Get out of the way you mutt!” A man spat and kicked at the child, Rhea grew angry and stormed toward the child. The man left and most people seemed to avoid the small child and Rhea walked towards him. She held out her hand, staring at the small thing as it looked up at her. The child seemed to bow its head, expecting to be hit. Rhea grew angrier at Bastian’s people, how could they be so cruel to a child?
Of course the child was a boy and Rhea’s own people were not known to be kind to boys, they treated them harshly but they did not let them starve. They would never let them starve especially since they were being raised to be strong men to carry on bloodlines of strong females. Rhea bent down to look at the child. The child’s eyes were almost too big for its tiny head. It looked like an owl, a small nose and small lips with large, olive coloured eyes.
“What is your name boy?” She asked him, a little awkward.
“Achilios,” he answered, staring at her through narrowed, sceptical eyes.
“Like the great Achilles,” she smiled and the little boy nodded, “Are you hurt Achilios?”
“No,” he shook his head quickly.
Rhea frowned, “Of course you are, that man hurt you. Do you want me to kill him?”
She made a move to grab her dagger and Achilios moved forward, grabbing her wrist, “No!”
