Opposites Attract (Stony fanfiction)

Healthy and Lively

"What the hell?" Natasha asked, looking at his perfectly healthy vitals. 

Bruce didn't know what to say, knowing that Natasha would be able to see through him if he lied. There was silence in the room while Tony just glanced nervously at Bruce and Coulson, not knowing what to do. They hadn't thought it through that far. As Pepper, Sam, and Colonel Rhodes stood, staring open-mouthed at the screen, Natasha had turned over in Tony's direction and caught on. She immediately knew they had done something but she also saw that they were trying to keep it a secret. 

Just as she was about to say something, everyone in the room froze when they heard the unmistakable voice of Steve Rogers. He let out a slight groan and his arms started to move. Tony nearly freaked and moved his chair up right beside the bed. His eyes were locked on Steve while everyone else in the room surrounded the bed. 

"Umm, I suggest that we all leave Tony alone with Steve for awhile. I don't want Mr. Rogers getting too overwhelmed at this point with all of us surrounding him and staring straight at him." Bruce said looking at everyone staring straight at Steve. "I agree. I think that's best for the time being." Coulson added as he walked to the door. 

He opened the door for everyone to leave. Coulson's team walked out along with Sam Wilson, Pepper, Colonel James Rhodes, and Bruce. Natasha was the last to leave and rolled her eyes at Coulson as he followed her out, closing the door behind him. "I'll tell you everything." Tony heard him say just before the door shut completely.

Tony's full attention was on Steve. His heart skipped a beat when he saw Steve groan again, as if he was waking up. Tony moved his hand close to Steve's. Just when Tony held onto Steve's hand, Steve groaned again but this time, he slightly opened his eyes. 

Tony had missed those beautiful blue eyes so much. Relief and joy overflowed him. "Steve. I'm here. You're all better now." He said, holding back the tears of happiness. 

"Your... hands.." Tony heard Steve mumble something. "What? Say it again." Tony asked, leaning in closer to Steve, "Your... hands... are... cold...." Steve repeated more clearly this time. "Oh!" Tony said suddenly, taking his hand back. He was no longer holding back his tears and they quietly came. "Steve. I just can't believe..." 

"I'm better now... I just have a.. splitting headache for the moment." Steve said while reaching for a glass of water from his beside  table. 

"What is that last thing you remember?" Tony asked, wondering if there was any trace of remembering the horrible operation. Steve closed his eyes for a few moments and thought back, "Honestly, the last thing I remember is going into the Shield hospital to let Banner look at my brain. Was Banner the one that fixed me?"

Tony didn't want to tell Steve about this operation and decided that if he ever did, now was not the time to bring it up, "Yeah. But mostly it was your super serum inside you. It helped heal your brain." Tony lied smoothly. Steve nodded his head and looked around, setting down the, now empty, glass of water. He saw his jacket near the bedside table and turned back to Tony. 

"So.. how long have I been.. ya know, healing?" Steve asked looking into Tony's brown eyes. "Well, you were actually awake at one point, you had amnesia though so, including all that, I'd say about a month and a half, give or take a few days." Tony answered truthfully.

"What about Nigel?" Steve asked, taking everything in. "Well... he kinda threw me into a rage and let's just say that he's gone for good now." Tony slightly smiled.

"Well it seems like everything is fine then. I mean look, at least I didn't miss our one year anniversary." Steve said smiling. Tony just laughed and looked down, trying not to think about the engagement ring he found. "Yeah yeah, actually, that's next week ya know." He said shortly after, looking back up again. 

"Really?" Steve asked. Tony nodded his head and they both just sat in silence for a few short seconds. "So where is everyone else?" Steve asked finally. Tony cleared his throat and wiped at his eyes, "Well, they are all waiting out in the hall. They didn't want to all overwhelm you at once." 

Steve smiled, "Overwhelm me? Captain America?" He said in a sarcastic yet heroic voice. He always had ways of making Tony laugh, even in the stupidest ways. "Yeah so Bruce says you should be able to come home within a few days. Just after some blood tests and the usual stuff." Tony said tapping his fingers on the sides of the chair. 

Steve nodded and the smile stayed on his face.

After awhile of talking, just the two of them, Tony let everyone else in, except for Natasha and Coulson, who were in a deep conversation. Steve then caught up with everyone. They told him about everything that had happened and he just listened the whole way through while he held hands with Tony. 

Just as Steve was finished listening to everything, the door opened and Natasha and Coulson both walked in. Tony knew that Coulson had told her and just hoped she woudn't rat them out. They both walked over to the bed and properly greeted Steve. 

Natasha just smiled and then started to randomly tell him about some missions she had gone on. Tony looked at Coulson in confusion and he gave him a reassuring glance telling him that everything was going to be fine. 

Tony realized then that everything really was going to be fine. He couldn't help but get happier by the moment to think that his Steve was fine. His amnesia was gone and his brain had completely been fixed. He just kept thinking,

"Everything was going to be fine."
