Enter the Guild

I tried to convince myself it was all a dream, but then I felt a rough hand on my shoulder. Goosebumps rose from my arms to my neck. I finally pulled up enough courage to turn around. The scream that rose from my throat was held down by another hand of the same texture.

"Shhhhh girl. Wouldn't want to be shouting your lungs out here," a croaky man's voice said in a thick 18th-century English accent.

I saw his face clearly now. An elderly man with a face containing millions of laugh lines and a monocle stood behind me, finally releasing his iron grasp from me. Then I saw the dark alleyway had turned into rows of black metal buildings, each topped with a pointy roof. I saw people wearing dull colours flaoting around on brooms or clouds. And most importantly, Joey was no where to be seen. What the heck? Was this the place mom had been telling stories about when I was a kid?

"Where..where am I? Who are you?" I asked after a moment of awe dazing around my mind.

"Oh sorry, child. I am Archibald Weather, the Witches Guild's head councilman. And you, my dear, have arrived in the parallel world of witches. I hope you accept my apology for bringing you here in such a rough matter. I couldn't think of another way to get you away from your human friend without encountering him."

"Okay...and i suppose you have your own reasons for bringing me here?" what kind of name is Archibald.

"Well, yes. You shall find out soon enough, when we reach to the guild building. And Archibald is a classic name from my time, if you need to know ever so rudely." he sounded unamused.

"You read minds?" I didn't like people interfering my privacy, especially my own thoughts.

"Your mom must have told you so little about yourself and your powers," he rolled his eyes.

Suddenly, a giant bat parked itself in frount of us. Oh boy, did this guy stink. I gagged.

"Hop on now," Archibald gestured toward the ghastly creature. He was already on the bat's back.

"No way."

"Teenagers can be so rude sometimes," he said while pointing a finger towards me.

"Hey! What are you-"

In a blink of an eye, I was on the foul-smelling bat's back and up in the air.

"Hello Mister Weather! Good day to be flying with me today," the bat can talk! A stinky, talking bat definitely scares shit out of people, and maybe some witches too? "Hello missy. I'm sorry I forgot to take a shower before I picked you guys up. It's only been 3 months since the last one. Hope you don't mind," it said while turning its head and grinned at me. Still. Gagging.

-

"So this is the memorial hall of past council members," Archibald naming each and every one of the paintings of dead witches, pointing and chattering continuously about each one like his life depended on it.

"Yeah, cool," I answered, although I wasn't paying as much attention as I was admiring the grandness of the as if never-ending hall. The walls are covered with teal-coloured velvet and the ceilings, pieces of intricately chiseled marble.

"I guess the ceilings are worth more to you than the noble councilmen, Leslie?" Archibald really has to stop budding into my mind.

"Well, I guess that we're in the council hall now, you should at least give me an explanation to your stalker-ish behaviour?" I snapped back.

"Let's take a walk to the meeting room, shall we? Shouldn't keep the other council staffs waiting.''

This Archibald guy is really getting on my nerves.

-

We opened a dark wooden door at the left of the surging corridor. As we walked in, twenty pair of eyes trailed along with every step I take. What the hell?! I thought. I really didn't like attention, and this is too much for me to take. I wanted to puke.

"Take a sit, Leslie," Archibald pulled out a chair for me at the long mahogany table. I sit, although not as graceful as I wanted to.

"As you have been wanting to know, we have been, how to put this, observing you. For the past month, I have personally travelled from here to the human world to and fro. Just like everyone sitting here at this table, you, Leslie Faith Meyer, are gifted," Archibald finally saying something that made sense of me abandoning Joey (technically, Archibald dragging me away from him).

"Yes, and we're so excited to have you!" a plump woman in an old-fashion dress from the other end of the table chimed.

"Wait-" I am not in whatever situation they're in.

"But of course, only when you past your sixteenth birthday can you officially be a guild member," a stout man with a scar down his right cheek joined in. " September the thirteenth, correct me if I'm wrong."

"Now you guys are officially stalkers. I have no idea who you guys are and you want me to join a guild in the witches' world? I have a life in the human world too, you know? Now please send me back, please," that's like the longest sentence I've said since I'm here.

"Very well. We have said what we needed to, and we will be very sure you'll be back here on your birthday."

I felt a splitting headache so I squinted my eyes. When I opened my eyes, I'm lying in bed, and my bedside clock read 12.00midnight. I have been gone for eight freaking hours. Was that a dream? My head's still spinning though.
