"What do you like to eat?"
Silence.
"What is your favorite color?"
Silence.
"Why is the sea blue?"
"Shut it, Blaise." I snapped as I smacked my pen down with a resounding clack. I had been trying to finish my work for the past half an hour and Blaise decided that it was a great time to start playing a one sided 20 questions with me. Mainly it just involved him asking random questions and then me ignoring him. It was obvious that he was enjoying this though, through the never wavering grin on his face.
Many people approached him, introducing themselves. Guys came in groups, inviting him to sit with them instead. Blaise sent them a glance, then he said bluntly, "Not interested". Girls walked over giggling, asking his if he wanted to sit with them during lunch. Again, his response was, "Not interested," breaking their hearts with just two words. Finally, even Ashley Carter came over to introduce herself.
"Hey, Blaise, wanna come over and sit with us? Trust me, you do not want to sit with this loser here." She batted her eye lashes flirtatiously.
Blaise furrowed his eyebrows, turned to see Ashley's friends giggling at a table at the far corner of the room. He turned back to Ashley's expectant face with a menacing glare. "Look here lady, firstly, not interested. Secondly, this 'Loser' here is my friend. So stop harassing us, will you?"
Ashley Carter was a person you never want to cross. Once, a fellow student poured milkshake down her latest model of Louis Vuitton handbag. No one knew what had happened, but then the student was forced to transfer schools. So what Blaise is doing now is as bold as eating an engaged grenade. I raised my eyebrows, mentally taking a bucket of popcorn and waiting for Ashley to blow up.
Ashley's bright smile faltered before turning into a smirk. Surprisingly, she did not blow up but instead, she looked at Blaise, and said,"You'll come to your senses soon enough."
Then she aimed her gaze at me, spitting out a warning. "You better watch your back, loser."
Wait, what?! How was it my fault? I was not the one who stopped Blaise from sitting with them. I did not even speak during their entire conversation! So by just being with Blaise, I got on Ashley's bad side? Oh Blaise, you are so dead now.
"So...," Blaise was looking at me with a stupid grin on his face.
"I am so going to choke the life out of you," I said, before pouncing onto him with my hands reaching for his neck.
Blaise held me down to my seat with only a little effort. Not really surprising because of his obviously muscled arms. He looked at me with his sparkling green eyes which are extremely frantic at the moment. "Hey, cool down there dude. What did I do wrong?"
"What did you do wrong? You made me an enemy of Ashley, you doofus. Oh I am so gonna have to transfer schools now. Or worse, I'll probably have to seek asylum in another country." I rambled on, listing out the possibilities of escaping Ashley's wrath. Blaise just looked at me, cocking an eyebrow and he still had that stupid grin on his face. He patiently waited till I was done.
"Would you wipe that stupid smile out of your face? I'm in trouble here and it's all because of you." I huffed and ripped my arms out if his hands and folded it on my chest.
"If she wants to hurt you, she'll have to go through me first. So don't worry okay, Les?" Blaise said with an oh-so-innocent smile that seemed to light up even the darkest corners of the world. For some reason, I believed him. I believed his promise of protecting me from Ashley.
Blaise was still starting intently at me, and I was clearly not going to break eye contact with him. What have I gotten myself into? Thankfully, the bell rang loudly, interrupting any thoughts I had about Blaise. Speak about being saved by the bell.
I grabbed my books and pencil case, rushing out of the room in a hurry. Somewhere behind me, I heard a distant "Hey, wait up!" I doubled my pace, effectively head bumping into something hard. As I look up, i realized that apparently it was a someone.
"What the-"
"Joey, hide!" I dragged him along behind me, into an empty classroom. I peeked out of the glass panel, noticing Blaise frantically finding me but took a left turn into another corridor instead. So long, 'friend'. I turned to Joey, an evident smile spreading across my face.
"Whats going on?" Joey asked, intrigued at the way I am acting.
"Got rid of a pest. He's been in every single one of my classes since morning. I'll be damned if he has Geography with us too." I explained to Joey.
"We'll just have to see then, huh?"
Joey and I made our way to the Geography classroom and he took his usual seat next to me. It was halfway into class before a boy in leather jacket strode into the class.
"Oh hell no," I said loudly.
"Hey beautiful," Blaise said as he winked at me. He glared at the person to my right. He immediately got Blaise's message and scooted over to another seat. Blaise as usual, plopped down right beside me.
Word of Blaise must have spread around the school as the teacher acted as though nothing was out of the ordinary, a student strolling in halfway through class.
"Are you serious?" Joey glared at him.
"I guess I am, hi, Joey." Blaise answered.
"Its Joe," Joey spat at Blaise.
Why am I caught in between again? This situation happened over and over again during the day, and surprise surprise, Blaise had the exact same schedule as me and sat beside me for every class. Blaise just took stalking to a whole new level.
During the walk home, Blaise decided to invite himself and walked with us. So naturally, the walk consisted mostly of Blaise's and Joey's bickering. Once we reach my house door, I had the ultimate shock of my life.
There, on the door, is a note that read:
A young must now grow to be wise,
But knowledge won't always be suffice.
Then comes a test that all is tested,
Even a friendship that strong may be doubted.
With old trees growing new buds,
Will the tree of life start to part?
It only takes a step to fail,
Yet a thousand miles to prevail.
Many thoughts went through my mind. The most prominent one was that Ashley was taking this too far? But there was a nagging voice at the back of my head that says it isn't Ashley.
