CHAPTER5: Ella/Patty
(Masquerade)
“Arghh” was the first thought that came to my mind when my annoying alarm
clock went off, “why can’t you just shut up and let me sleep” I groaned as I
reached to turn off the awfully annoying sound it was making, I watched the clock
read 6.00am gosh how time flies I thought, just 5 more minutes and I’ll be up and
deep within me I knew that was a huge lie but I didn’t even mind, I curled myself
in the sheets once again and drifted off to patties’ wonderland where I didn’t I have
to worry about annoying bosses or my annoying work. Work! Gosh! Work, I woke
up almost suddenly to find the clock reading 7:00am
‘Ohh come on!!” I groaned as I rolled out of bed and began rushing for work
once again, half an hour later I was hurrying to the elevator and went straight to my
office and not even 2minutes later the intercom rang
“Hello, yes Maddie…what? When? ”
While I was thinking of having a board free day I just got off the phone being
summoned by the board for a meeting and it was just those kinds of meetings you
couldn’t miss because your presence and expertise was just needed there.
I grabbed my laptop and walked to the huge conference room where everyone was
now seated and waiting for me and anyone else who had the guts to arrive late as I
did which was pretty much no one, I walked up to an empty chair and sat next to
Anderson who’s now shiny bald head served as a reflector panel for the room, he
was so bald I could almost swear that I could use his head for a mirror, I could tell
he wasn’t happy to see me either, I turned to see Ella across the other side of the
table as she stood to explain a few details of the meeting.
“Good morning ladies and gentlemen” Ella began addressing the members of the
board
“We are all aware of our plummeting company, the situation keeps getting worse
and each day we don’t do something about it our ranking in the energy drink
market drops and someday Stride will no longer be functional”
“Ms. Turner had said something yesterday about you, that you had an Idea which
I believe we’ll all like to hear” Allan Grayson replied looking so stern and keen determined to get an answer from Ella.
“Yes of course Mr. Grayson that’s where I give my grand idea” Ella replied with
the look of confidence in her eyes as she gracefully walked to the front of the table
while her beautiful curly hair draped round her shoulders
“I suggest a fundraiser” Ella spoke, the idea I had to admit had me intrigued,
though I don’t know about the other members of the board because there were few
murmurs and soon enough I became one of them as I began thinking of the blind
date Ella was to go on, was this her way of dodging this date or what? Because if
the board bought this idea then poof! Date cancelled
“I do think you’re onto something Ms. Chase would you like to explain your
plans for the company” Mrs. Hamilton asked, I didn’t really know she was here
because I was too busy thinking of my plans, but then this fundraiser could work in
my friend’s favor and in no time I had something all planned up already
“Currently stride is lacking the resources needed to move forward, a fundraiser
like this would show people we need their support to get through this” Ella replied,
she was good at this so much that I couldn’t compete with her
“Okay Ms. Chase let’s all assume you’re right, where are we going to get
sponsors, we hardly have good business relations with anyone” Mrs. Hamilton
replied
“It’s a good time to start making one” I stood replying the old woman who was
now glaring at me
“If I may Ma’am, I believe Ella’s Idea is a great one, if we start having good
relations with others rather than just hanging out alone in the dark we might just be
able to turn this thing around” I stepped out of my chair and walked towards Ella
who was smiling, ohh you better smile I thought within me as the sound of my
stilettos filled the whole room across the marble floor.
“65% of most businesses are always a success because of good relations; with this
we might save our sinking titanic” I patted Ella at the back and with that some
members of the applauded which I would think would mean they bought the idea.
“And I would like to suggest a masquerade ball fundraiser because we’ll have a
high chance of grasping our sponsors” I added and smirked and Ella turned to look
at me like since when did this become your idea; I guess that meant she now knew I had an ulterior motive behind all this.
‘If I may, ladies and gentlemen I do not agree to the part of a masquerade ball’
Anderson spoke out, why this bald guy had to barge in on all my plans!
"A fundraiser is not a bad idea, but why does it have to be a masquerade ball?"
Anderson now spoke out as he spun the pen he held so dearly in his fingers as he
waited expectantly for my answer, but just before I could say a word
"Depending on the fundraiser to be thrown that day, where certain highly placed
individuals wouldn’t their identity out In the open, and that aside a masquerade
ball is highly much fun Mr. Anderson, trust me" Ella replied out rightly
"He wouldn’t understand since he doesn’t have much fun" I added glaring at
Anderson, just then I felt Ella stomp my foot with her heel, though it wasn’t one of
those long pin stilettos but gosh I felt like passing out, I do second guess why I
even help Ella out sometimes, I turned to see even the old Mrs. Hamilton giggling
"I think we all buy the idea" Allan broke the giggling across the room
"But Ms.Turner you will be working hand in hand with Ms.Chase to get this done
in the shortest time as possible" Mrs. Hamilton gave me her final blow before
closing the book in front of her and declaring the meeting had come to a
conclusion

"Ohh come on!! you can't do this" I yelled to the old woman who'd already made
her way out the door, jeez I hated these things and now here was I all stuck with
one of the biggest responsibilities!
