Sakina had left with Zalmai, her brother. Everyone had come to accept Sakina, even like her for who she was. Even her mother dismissed it now saying that Danaii were like that. They were excused for not controlling their rage.
Sakina was not a bad person, she saw it, she was compassionate, truthful, brave and loyal. She had every characteristic a woman should have. She had a temper too, a very violent one and a strange sense of humor but that only made her unique to other women. Like all the Danaii she had drawn people to her and no matter what they did, you could not despise them. Shaista did with all the hatred she could possess.
She hauled the clothes into the wash basin and let them drown in the water imagining it to be Sakina. She spilled open her chest of jewelry, the red beads rolled against the marble flooring and she imagined it to be Sakina's blood. The thought made her sick mind so happy she started laughing out loud. Reaching down her fingers sought to rip the beads apart
'How dare you handle my daughter's belongings'
The voice was calm, the coldness of it froze her heart. She turned and cowered away from the intimidating man. The forest green turban like a crown on his head, a dark mantle draped over his shoulders, curved leather sandals encased his feet. His entire aura and appearance screamed dominance and authority. She had no doubt about who he was. His dark eyes called out murder and his clenched fingers itched to act upon it. He shook his proud head from side to side and clicked his tongue. The act was so humiliating she looked down unable to bear his condescending gaze
'I advised Asfandyaar to return you to your people. Pukhtuns can only tolerate Pukhtuns. And this is how you repay us...'
She trembled, the blood running wildly through her body. She had never been so terrified of anyone
'You seek to hurt my niece. You cannot stand her happiness. And if you act upon the plans you have I will end your pathetic life'
She felt light headed
'You wouldn't hurt a woman'He laughed and raised two fingers 'One you are not a woman and two I won't be doing the killing. I don't like to get my hands dirty and besides you are not worthy enough for me to bestow upon you the honor of killing you personally'
She had never felt so worthless as she did now, he had destroyed the little pride she had.
He turned up his proud nose at her, his niece had picked up that habit from him
'Get out of my sight vermin' he flicked her awayHe restored the jewelry to its chest and closed the lid
If he thought he had diverted her attention from harming Sakina he was wrong. She was now more determined to destroy her and in the process Sardaar Zaraar Danaii Khayl too would be destroyed.
The foolish girl did not think about the flaws in her plan, about the consequences her actions would bring. She didn't know that if she were to harm Sakina the Danaii would be thirsty for her blood. They would not rest until her heart was no longer beating. She did not know Sardaar Zaraar would cool his heart by watching the life drain out of her eyes.
Her envy threatened to suffocate her as she watched the man who had only a moment ago promised her murder engulf his daughter into his arms and promise her the world. Everyone loved Sakina
