So in basic terms
Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.

And as many of you know I'm a Muslim

And in this time we fast during all the daylight hours
So no food or drink until sunset/iftar

Other than commemoration it is also used to make us thankful for life as many people in developing countries go without food for longer
And in Islam it is encouraged to give zakat
Which is charity
And the amount is 2.5% of your pure wealth

Ramadhan is a time of reflection and thankfulness

So this is what it is
