Everyone had been settled into a deep sleep. As far as Stem could tell, at least. She heard a noise, gremlin? She thought. And a wave of anxiety flooded through her. But the wave fell back down, as she realized it was just a dragonet mumbling in their sleep.
She listened in. Trying to understand what they were saying, until she realized what the dragonet was talking about. They were talking about her, her scales, her horns, her personality.
Lizard, was the name that ran through her mind. Ugh, eww what am I thinking.
She could hear voices coming from the sleeping caves. It was dawn and the dragons were all about to wake up. Footsteps edged closer and closer to the infirmary, light and bouncing. She assumed it was Banana, coming to see her.
"Good morning!" She burst, "Clay says that you can get out of bed for class today! YIPEE!"
Stem nearly jumped out of the rocky, leaf bed. She was so hungry, she had been in bed for almost two days with no food.
"Oh! Right!" Banana said, "He also said to go to the prey center before the gong sounds."
She did jump this time, "Ooo! That sound great!" She said, already halfway down the hall. Banana hadn't realized what had happened. When she did, though, she followed along.
They reached the prey center, and Stem found three goats to eat. Banana just stayed by the fruit pile, eating papaya, and mangoes. Stem had never thought about how they were vegetarians, the whole concept was strange to her.
"So, you haven't ever eaten a live animal?" She asked, "That sounds odd, to me, anyway." She finished.
"No, but you haven't ever eaten a banana, so, I think we're tied." She came back.
"Sounds more like cannibalism to me." Stem responded jokingly. They both laughed.
"I never thought about that." She giggled, "It is a strange name to give a dragonet, the name of a popular fruit, I mean."
"Yeah, I guess so."
They both ate, and laughed at jokes. They did this for a while, until the gong sounded. They both walked down to history class, two winglets couldn't combine into one class, because too little dragonet students, meant they had to spread things out.
They went to history, today all Webbs had us do was communicate and learn about each other. Stem learned more about Igloo, and Granite, and Lizard.
Lizard stared at her the entire time, which kind of freaked her out. He even messed up, and called her pretty. She was beginning to like him more, and more.
Maybe it was Lizard talking about me, She considered for a moment, then stopped.
The prey center was closed, no one told them why. Instead, Tsunami took them hunting. Lizard got the first catch, a deer, he shared it with her. Everyone watched as they talked.
"So," Lizard said, "Umm. Hehe, hows the deer!" He tilted his head at her, she could tell he was nervous. But why.
They walked to the far side of the lake, talking random. At least she new she was making friends, more than friends? Popped into her mind, but she shoved it away, and put it in her 'stupid thoughts' chest, stored in the back of her mind. Slammed it shut. And locked it up tight.
Mother had always told her that boys were annoying, gross, and smelled like Burn's old stronghold. Blood, and decapitated heads.
Of course, Stem had never been to Burn's stronghold, when she lived, at least. Mother never wanted to scar her dragonet for life. But of course, now, scars were to be made on her from gremlin claws.
Stem grabbed a large fish from the lake, and handed it to Lizard. He grabbed it, took a bite, and laid down in the warm, Autumn, sand. Stem sat down next to him, feeling that it would be too awkward to lay beside him.
He noticed this, she could see it in his wide, grey-blue, eyes. Is that a normal SandWing eye color. Her thoughts splattered all over the place in her mind.
She laid beside him finally. Awkward. The exact opposite of what she wanted. He twined her tail around his. Stem panicked.
THREE MOONS! THIS IS AWKWARD! TOO AWKWARD! GOODNESS WHAT DO I DO? DO I SIT BACK UP? NO THAT WOULD MAKE HIM FEEL BAD! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!
UGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Millions of thoughts crowded her mind, until he grabbed her talons in his. More panic.
OH MOONS NO! I WISH MOTHER WERE HERE! WHAT DO I DO!?
WHY!!!?( I wasn't even thinking about what I was writing, so when I read it I was like, "OH! Mother {Glaze_Donut } don't kill me!")
