Astrid's eyes forced themselves open and she looked around the room. 'I'm in a hospital,' she thought. Much to her surprise, the six S.H.I.E.L.D. people were in the room, staring at her.
"Sorry we didn't introduce ourselves. I'm Steve Rogers, and they are Natasha Romanoff, Tony Stark, Clint Barton, Bruce Banner, and Thor." Steve pointed at each person as he said their name.
"I'm Astrid," she responded quietly.
"Where are your parents kid?" Tony asked.
Tears drizzled from Astrid's ocean blue eyes and down her cheeks. She lowered her head, letting her firey red hair cover her face. "Mommy's dead," whispered Astrid.
"I'm sorry for your loss," muttered the Avengers.

A few hours later, Astrid decided to explore the hospital that she was in. She heard Natasha's voice and went to investigate.
"Why did you call us here Fury?" Natasha asked.
"Project CW-12," Fury responded. "It was found in HYDRA's database after your last mission. According to a DNA test done by Dr. Banner, this girl is project CW-12. We need to be extremely careful, we don't know where her loyalties lie."

'Oh no,' Astrid thought. 'They are going to take me back.' Astrid sprinted down the hall, looking for an exit.

Steve heard Astrid's quiet footsteps outside the door. He opened it and saw her dashing down the hallway. Steve chased after her, shouting "Where are you going!?"
Determined to not be taken to the people who killed her mother, Astrid picked up the pace.
With ease, Steve caught up with Astrid and wrapped her in his arms. "Calm down," Steve said repeatedly. The two stayed like that for a few minutes. "Let's go back to your room," commanded Steve nicely. He carried her and mouthed to the rest of the Avengers to follow him.
