Cat was only eight when her parents were killed in the house fire. A fire that would not have happened if her mom did not forget to blow out the candle on the fireplace mantle. Cat was the first to hear the fire alarm go off but by the time she ran towards her parents room, her older brother Michael picked her up and ran out of the house. She kicked him a few times before she realized that he did that to save her.

Her parents weren't able to be saved. The fire had blocked their parents bedroom at the end of the hall.

It felt like ages until the firefighters and EMTs got to their house. She sat on the back of the ambulance as her brother, only ten, talked to the police. Cat kept looking at the house, in total shock that her childhood home was now crumbling with her parents, books, toys and clothes inside.

Once the fire was put out,a few firefighters had found their parents. Michael had shielded Cat from seeing the bodies. She saw a glimpse of their blacken skin. They had stayed together, knowing they could not get out. Soon the officers up her parents before they took them away to be examined.

"We're going to bring you to the hospital to make sure you are all okay. Someone will be meeting us there to take you with them." one of the EMT ladies stated before helping both them into the back of the ambulance.

Michael had a blank face the entire night and every now and then he would take his sister's hand and squeeze it. He blocked out his emotion, not wanting to scare Cat even more. When the officers and emts talked to him, he acted so grown up.

She realized that he had to. He had to take care of her now. They had lost everything, without even saying goodbye.

Twenty minutes later they arrived at the hospital. Cat shuddered against the cold air as soon as they stepped out of the ambulance. Mikey slide his arm around her to half hug her as they walked inside. The ER was quiet compared to the tv shows. Two interns came up to the EMT and then ushered them into a small room to be examined.

Cat was alone once they left with Mikey for his scan. She laid back in the bed and tried to relax. She gasped and clutched at her chest. The lights flickered and when they came back on, she heard the voice.

"Ah, I am so glad I can finally be with you, Catherine," the deep, unknown voice trickled through her head like slow moving water. "Your mother was amazing host but sadly they had to die. She was growing weak."

"No.. no.." Cat muttered, bringing her hands to head.

She screamed and everything went black.
