Cannonball - Skylar Grey + X AmbassadorsConversation flows from my mouth as Jeremy and I walk to the local Starbucks. I had missed him over the past two months. With college being over for the summer, he had taken that opportunity to tour before coming back to school to continue his studies.
"What was it like? Performing with so many people there for just you?" He chucked to himself, swinging a friendly arm over my shoulder.
"I've done it before, you know," he pauses to kick a pebble that lay in front of him. "But it was incredible. The crowds were much larger than the times before, so many people showed up fro the vip sessions, oh Jas I wish that you were there." I turn my head to the side to see his face lighting up with excitement as he speaks. Jeremy always talked about a headlining tour, and I was beyond happy for him when he announced it. From the moment I first met him when we were kids, I had only ever known a hard worker. We take casual strides, enjoying the sun as we finally come upon our destination. The local Starbucks seems to welcome us as Jeremy holds open the door for me.
"So, no festivals this summer?" I eye the pastry case as we wait in line, but decide against it.
"A few, I'm more so working on writing some new stuff, got a friend coming out to write with me in a few days too." I move forward and quickly order my casual vanilla bean before scoring Jeremy and I a seat at the back of the cafe. Jeremy shows up a few moments later and places down both of our drinks on the table. He slides into the seat across from me, a small smile on his lips. "Speaking of writing, are you still writing lyrics and poems?"
I sigh and take a sip of my frappe, my eyes drifting around the room. I had stopped writing after Jeremy left, once certain insecurities came back. He had told me that if I ever needed him, he was just a message away. All of the times that I needed him, I never messaged him, I didn't want to burden him as he was having such an amazing time.
"Somewhat, Yeah. I've been busy with... other things." Jeremy nods and sips his own drink, a small smile set on his lips. Oh how I would ever hate to break the happiness that he brings. "I'm happy that you're home."
I reach across the table and place my hand on his, the smile that I was to widen, only stays small in my face. We continue to talk through how his tour was and the minimal things that I had experienced in his absence. We talked of the things that he learned and discovered, laughing at the videos on his phone. It must have been hours, but a small buzz from his phone caused him to glance over at it. A smirk appears on his lips.
"Seems like my friend is here. He was here four days ago but let's face it, no one can resist this." I laugh as Jeremy flips his imaginary hair behind his shoulder and strikes a pose. Only he could have a sense of humour that I went along with. We stand from the table, throwing our empty Starbucks cups in the trash before we continue from the store. A group of girls sat in the centre of the cafe and I couldn't help but notice them giggle and stare at Jeremy as we walked by. Almost as if on an instinct, I wrap my arms around my stomach, becoming insecure of my body and my looks. Jeremy, who had taken a streaky pace next to me, noticed the girls and my discomfort. It almost surprises me as he wraps a arm around my waist, pulling me close to his side. My eyes side glance to the group of girls and I notice a few of them cast in my glares of disgust. It's clear that they know who he is, and I wouldn't doubt for a second that they would have tried for him if he hadn't made the small gesture that he did.
We continue to walk forward, my nervous body shaking under his strong hold. I know that he can feel my soft motions, but he doesn't do anything about it, he knows better than anyone to let me be at times like this. I calm myself down and look back on those few seconds that had just happened. Jeremy pushes open the Starbucks door and we exit the joint, leaving behind the group of girls and all sadness. I don't move from his embrace, but instead I stay comfortably situated in his arms. I used to have a thing for Jeremy a few years ago, but I was quick to push it out when I realized that a girl like me could never be anything more than friends with a guy like him. My phone rings in my back pocket and I instantly fish it out, breaking away from Jeremy.
"Hello?" My voice displays a gentle shake of nerves due to the situation before, but I play it off as if it's nothing and distance myself from Jeremy.
"Hey baby girl, how's it with the boy- friend?" I can practically hear the smile in Zack's voice as he speaks.
"Definitely a boy and just a friend, and it's good," I pause, taking a glance at Jeremy. "Jerm has to pick someone up from somewhere I think so I'm just going to come home."
Jeremy turns his body to face my gaze as he takes a couple of more steps towards me. His hand comes to rest in my arm and I freeze, the sudden touch becoming one filled with nerves.
"How about you come with me? I think you might like him." My mouth sets slightly open as I look at Jeremy, wondering if I should.
"I mean, if I'm not burdening you-"
"Of course not, the more company, the better." I sigh and turn back to speaking into my phone.
"Well, I guess that I'm going with Jeremy."
"So I heard, well we will make dinner for everyone to come back here, see you then!" Zack hangs up the phone without allowing me to speak another word. I turn back towards Jeremy.
"Well, it seems that you and your friend are coming for dinner tonight."
