"Hey D, who's this? What's up newbie?" Asked a guy with shocking blue hair and like, five piercings in his ears.
"Shut up Drake," Davina said coldly, pushing him out of the way and gesturing to a chair at the table.
Not just any table, but the Populars' Table.
I may not have lunch here but I'd heard enough to know that no one, in the history of the existence of Davina Sanders, had ever been invited to sit at the Populars' Table. Sure, people had been kicked out here and there, but no one was ever invited in.
The Group of Populars was made of seven members originally. One left school, and two had been kicked out, leaving the group with four members, including Davina. The second, I suppose was Drake.
Speaking of Davina, she sat on one of the chairs and gave me a look that perfectly translated to "If you don't sit here right now, you're going to regret it".
I sat down.After which I heard a loud gasp.
Apparently, everyone in the cafeteria had their eyes trained at me, wondering why I was walking with Davina despite not being a Popular. As I said before, no one was invited, ever, to sit at the table. So, me, a nobody, being told to sit there, by none other than Davina, was quite a shock, not for the whole student body, but also for me.
"Drake, where are the twins?" Davina asked him, receiving no response.
The guy in question was busy looking from Davina to me, probably trying to figure out what had happened.
"Drake!"
"Wha...how...you...she...populars...why?"was all the poor guy could say.
Davina looked at him with an unamused expression, and repeated, "The twins, Drake, where are they?"
"Right, the twins. They're on their way. You know Stacey, always trying to blackmail the teachers to up her grades and Jason always trying to convince them to ignore her," he replied hastily.
She shook her head, the corners of her mouth lifting into a smile.
She turned to me and said, "As you probably know by now, this git here, is Drake. Though I bet you knew that already. He's pretty hard to overlook with that loud hair colour and over-the-top attitude."
I had heard of Drake, actually. Apparently, he was supposed to be this annoying, rude, guy who thought that he was a gift to humanity.
So far, I hadn't seen or heard anything to deny or confirm that assumption.
"Hey guys."
I looked up and saw a brunette - Stacey - being trailed by a guy, who was probably Jason, her brother.
"Uh, Davina, what's the occasion?" Stacey inquired slowly, looking at me questioningly, while sitting on a chair next to Drake.
Jason took a seat on Drake's other side, directly opposite me.
"Oh, I woke up in the mood to break a tradition, and when I saw her, well, I figured out which one. She's Zoe by the way. She's in our year. Zoe, this are the twins, Stacey and Jason," Davina replied.
I lost her at her first 'Zoe', however. In the little time we talked, I had never once mentioned my name, and yet she knew me, and my year. Turns out I wasn't as invisible as I thought I was. Then again, she is Davina Sanders. Knowing everyone is vital if you want to control them.
"So, it's as simple as that? You want to break tradition so you pick the first person you see and drag her to our table?" Stacey questioned.
Davina simply nodded, taking a bite out of an apple she had pulled out of her bag.
I thought Stacey was going to put up a fight. You can't just go around breaking traditions and no one in your group says anything, but I guess I was wrong because seconds later, Stacey replied with a shrug and a 'cool'.
The four populars pulled out their food and started eating, and I observed them, trying to learn something about each of them.
Drake was a food fanatic. That was the easiest thing to figure out as he literally ate half his burger in one bite. Oh and did I mention that the entire time he ate, he didn't utter a single word and was almost fully preoccupied with his food? I say almost because he kept stealing glances at a certain someone. Guess Drakey boy has a crushie wushy.
...Yeah I'm not saying that again.Davina and Stacey were talking about class. Well, it was mostly Stacey doing the talking, complaining about how a certain teacher purposely failed her because she once called her a nasty old nuisance by mistake, and that she, as in Stacey, felt that the teacher had it coming. With all the hand gesturing and tonal variation, I figured she was pretty independent. Someone who stood up for what she believed in, who wouldn't give up that easy.
Davina, however, had an amused look on her face, as she nodded now and again to show that she was, indeed listening to every word Stacey was saying. I glanced at her tray of food. She had a fork in one hand, which she was moving around the tray, hardly eating any of it. Infact, I realized that she had had nothing after having her apple. Was it possible...
Dismissing that thought, I finally turned my gaze on Jason, and was startled to find that he was already studying me.
"I know you from somewhere," he said.
I nodded and said, "Considering I have been in this school for the last three years, I'd say, yeah you do."
I don't even know why I said that. Maybe being out here in the open, without my hair to shield me, my only other weapon, or rather defense, left was my tongue.
"Hang on, you're the Zoe." Jason's eyes widened as he stated that.
The Zoe? What's he talking about?
"I mean, you're the girl who sits in the back of the class, hardly ever listens, has Chase as her brother, never talks to anyone and always has her hair down."
This time, my eyes widened.
"No shit, Sherlock," I replied.
"It's not my fault that class is so boring I have no other pass time than scrutinizing all my classmates!"
"Aaaand, you just went from Sherlock, to crazy stalker. Congratulations," I said, stretching the 'and'.
Jason laughed and said, "You're cool Zee."
For the umpteenth time that day, I was left dumbfounded. Someone, a guy at that, and not just any guy, but one of the populars, called me cool! He called Zoe, cool. And he addressed me as Zee.
Okay, it's official, I've gone mad and I'm hallucinating.
I mean, my fate sucks. So it's either that or whoever's writing my story mixed it up with a character from a cliche high school romance.......................................
Let's see...no, my notes are in order so, no Zoe, I haven't mixed up you story with a character from a cliche high school romance. I'm not even writing a cliche high school romance currently. So I'd say you're good where you are, which is at the Populars' Table.
Guys, what did you think of the new additions to our story?
Why did Davina bring her over to the table? What will happened to Zoe now that the whole school knows of her existence? And Jason? You guys think there could be something there?
