-----Lance's pov-----
Once I got to class everyone else had already arrived so there was only two or three empty seats left. I headed to the empty seat next to the wall near the back and sat down. The teacher wasn't there yet so we could do whatever we wanted until they got there. I decided to talk to girls on my left and see if any of them piqued my interest. To my surprise I see Nyma and Shay, Nyma lives on my street and her and Shay are pretty good friends.
"Oh my, don't you ladies look especially lovely today. What's the special occasion?" I say to the ladies, turning on the charm.
"See Shay! I told you that people would notice." Nyma said to Shay.
"I know, but I still don't see why you wanted me to 'look my best' today. It's not that big of a deal." Shay said sighing.
"What!! Don't be ridiculous! Shay, it's you birthday and if that's not important then what about the fact that you'll finally be able to talk to your soulmate, that's really exciting." Nyma exclaimed.
"Nyma.... Don't say that. I might not meet them. You know that it's EXTREMELY rare for people to meet their soulmate as soon as they turn 18. Most of the time it takes a year or few months, weeks if they're lucky......years if they're unlucky. And plus for all I know mine might not even go to this school, I mean they could live in a completely different country." Shay said, her voice was laced with sadness and doubt.
"Shay, don't say that. You'll find yours soon I feel it, no I KNOW it. OK! any guy would be lucky to have you, soulmate or not." Nyma said.
"I'm sorry to interrupt you lovely ladies, but couldn't help but overhear your conversation. But what are you girls talking about?" I ask.
"Oh today is Shay's birthday, which means that tomorrow she will be able to talk to her soulmate directly no matter who or where they are." Nyma said.
"Oh well in that case Happy birthday Shay. But if you don't mind me asking how is it possible for someone to talk to their soulmate if they don't who they are or even where they are?" I ask them. I mean that's not possible right.
"I guess you don't know or don't remember, which is possible, not many people do. So I'll explain. Ok so starting from the day after your 18th birthday, if write on your skin it will appear on your soulmate's skin too, no matter where or who they are. For example say you write a word, a sentence or even draw a heart or something like that, it will appear on your soulmate skin in the exact same place." She said.
"Which is why most people tend to find their soulmates after they turn 18. But even tho it's much easier to find your soulmate after the age of 18, it's still really hard. Mainly because both you and your soulmate have to 18 for it to work. So if your soulmate was 18 and you weren't and they wrote on their skin then nothing would change on you side, and if you were the one who was 18 and you wrote on your skin you would be just you writing on yourself." Nyma continued.
"And that's why most people tend to forget about the skin thing. Because by the time both you and your soulmate are 18, then months have passed.... Sometimes years." Shay finished.
I couldn't believe what I had just heard. Is it really possible? If I write on my arm will really appear on my soulmate too? Could this help me find them? Or are they just playing a prank on me?..... But Shay seemed so sad when she said that hers might not even be in the same country as her.
"But how do you if you soulmate is 18 or not?" I ask.
"That's the thing, there's no way of knowing for sure. If you write on your arm and don't get a response, it could be that they are not 18, it could be that they don't want to be with someone like that yet maybe they think it's too soon to be in a relationship like that or they could just not have noticed it. There's no way of knowing which one it is." Shay said.
"What, how is it possible to not notice something like that?" I ask baffled by the fact that that was even possible. I mean come on, how is it possible to miss strange markings on your own arm? You would have to be an idiot to miss something like that.
"Well.... They could have not felt it being written, they could have thought that their friend wrote it on them will they were sleeping or in class, they could wear long sleeves so it cover their arms...." Nyma trials off trying to think of more ways.
"They could just not have that part of their body" Shay says. Nyma and I just look at her.
"What, it IS possible, I mean think about it, what if they were in a car accident or something like that. Or they were born without all their limbs. It's rare, but it happens, I mean everyone has a soulmate after all." Shay defended. She does have a point.
Just as Shay finishes her sentence the teacher walked in. We turn to face the board and the conversation ends there.
