Chapter 11: Reminiscing
Advay's P.O.V
After wiping myself clean from the paint on my face, I looked at myself in the mirror with a frown.
Chandni really loves these kids, and so do I. This school was not part of my plan, I thought seduction would do the trick, but this girl is just something else. The way her eyes had shined with tears when the kids were done having their fun, it showed how much she was affected by my attitude towards the kids. The kids. I smiled to myself at those cute little souls running around my feet. They are truly remarkable.
Walking out of the washroom, I noticed how the walls were peeling, the stalls of the washroom were not clean. These kids have been living in germs, this can lead to many infections. I couldn't even stand in there and these innocent kids have to use this place every single day. I have to fix this.
Chandni was squatted down, giving the kids chocolates that she had taken out of her bag as she kissed them all goodbye. I smiled at the sight.
"Where is Diya?" Chandni asked the kids, and they all looked around with confusion.
Mrs. Marla showed up then. "I saw Diya going into the washroom a while ago, Chandni," she said with a smile, and Chandni stood up to give Mrs. Marla two chocolate bars.
"One chocolate for you and the other for Diya, please don't forget to give it to her," Chandni said with a smile, and Mrs. Marla gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"I will," The woman said.
"Let's go, Chandni," I cut in and Chandni nodded her head before following me out the school. I went over to the passenger side, opening the door for her. I watched her as she slowly began to walk my way on her slow clumsy steps. She was wearing a beautiful white long shirt with red flowers hand designed on the sleeves and chest, simply breathtaking.
She looked up from the ground to look at me with a smile. Now I will always feel irony in our meetings, because if she remembered that night one month ago, she would never be here, looking at me like that.
Her eyes suddenly snapped to somewhere behind me, and I frowned when her eyes widened and her mouth gaped open. Looking over my shoulder, I looked at the road behind us and noticed a small frame walking on the sidewalk, but the little girl was walking towards the line of the signal where few cars were passing by. It was not a busy road but there were many people around with their family. Some beggars too.
When I turned back around, Chandni wasn't there, and I looked around frantically as to where she went. Loud car honks made me turn again towards the road and my eyes widened when I saw Chandni running after the small girl in two pigtails who had suddenly gone off the sidewalk and onto the road. A car was gaining ahead towards where Chandni ran to grab the girl in her arms, as she was running back to the sidewalk with the child in her arms, the car managed to hit her ankle, making her fall to the ground roughly with the girl still wrapped securely in her arms.
I ran at full speed to the scene where Chandni laid with the girl in her arms, blood gushing out of Chandni's ankle. I tended to Chandni and lifted the girl from her arms into mine and pulled Chandni to a sitting position who winced loudly as she tried to push on her hands so she was sitting upright.
The car that hit them had already driven off, I did not get to note its serial number down, and I cursed to myself.
Chandni grabbed the girl from my arms and began to run her hands down the girl's arms absentmindedly. "Are you okay, Diya?" Chandni asked with a shaky breath and I felt myself frown deeply.
Diya was crying softly from the shock but shook her head and hugged Chandni around the neck, and Chandni hugged her back. "I'm so sorry!" Diya mumbled while Chandni managed to smile and replied.
