"I sit around and wonder about the fire in your eyes, the movement of your fingers, the way you slowly complicate my life." - Unknown

Chapter 22: Beginning of Catastrophe

"Hello?" I murmured into the phone.

There was a long pause before his deep voice spoke through the speakers. "I'm not going to question why and how you did what you did tonight," he came straight to the point, sighing on the other end. "Just be careful next time before trying to be a hero, Chandni, because in the process of saving someone else, you may end up killing someone close to you, not everyone has a strong heart as yours," he said softly, and I looked at Shikha and Megha who were talking about the atrocities that occurred tonight with crestfallen faces.

I nodded my head even though he couldn't see me.

"Chandni?" He suddenly whispered.

"Yes, Advay?"

"I miss you," he murmured, and I felt my heart flutter as I looked away from my two friends and began to walk towards our room.

"You miss me?" I asked.

"Of course! Its really boring here without you running around and yelling at me for the meetings I have to attend next," I flushed at his statement, "I do have an assistant here, but she isn't working so well."

"She?" I cut in, making him chuckle.

"Yes, I find one in every country I go to, just temporary," he said calmly, and then I heard a voice in the background of a girl telling Advay that there was a meeting for him in ten minutes.

I rolled my eyes and began to take my earing off, "It takes time, but she will get the hang of it," I muttered into the phone with distaste. "And I can't see why you would miss me when you have other girls to keep you busy."

"Girls? They are like employees, Chandni," I could practically hear him smirking from the other end by the tease in his voice.

"I am an employee too, aren't I? Yet you found a boring person like me interesting, I'm sure the other girls you met are different in nature, appealing, and more entertaining than me!"

"Chandni, calm down," Advay said sternly this time, but I wasn't listening.

"Why don't you get back to work, Mr. Raizada?" I muttered through gritted teeth and then turned the phone off, breathing heavily as I looked down at the phone that I had placed on the dressing table.

I don't know how I could possibly think I'm the only girl in his life. Compared to other girls, I am nothing but a nerd behind glasses. Taking my spectacles off, I placed them in my small kit and then began dressing for sleep.

I might be overreacting, but I just needed a moment to breathe, too much has happened today. After slipping into my covers, I let the bright lamp turned on the way I always do when Shikha and Megha decide to sleep late. Closing my eyes, I fell into a slumber.

When I woke up, the sun was shining brightly outside. I groaned as I stretched in bed. Shikha and Megha were both still sleeping so I quietly slipped off onto the floor and went inside the washroom to freshen up. After slipping into a loose shirt and a pajama, I tied my hair into a bun and went inside the kitchen to brew a cup of coffee. After done making myself the hot drink that I always drink to start off my day cheerfully, I remembered my phone that I had left on the dressing table. Quickly grabbing the phone, I went out onto the balcony and sat down on the rocking chair, sipping the coffee before turning my phone on.
