Huh?
Where am I?
I looked around.
Fields?
I was surrounded by paddy.
"Keturah! Over here!"
That voice.
I know that voice.
I turned my head to the direction of the voice so fast I swear I could hear a snap.
She was there. Waving at me.
"Rem!" I shouted so happily and ran towards her direction as fast as I could. But once I reached where she stood, she had gone further away. I just continued running after her. I felt like I have been running for hours before I finally caught up to her. Grabbing her shirt while gasping for air, afraid she would disappear again.
"Keturah, do you hear that? It sounds like something horrible is going to happen."
I stood straight and tried listening but only picking up the sound of wind rustling through the paddy. Looking back at her, I told that I could not hear a thing.
She did not respond at all so I decided to take this time to observe her.
She looked beautiful, as she always had been.
Hazel eyes with black rims around the corners of her iris, raven black hair with her pale skin and pink lips. She looked like a doll with her pastel pink oversized sweater, with blue trimmings and ribbons all around the sleeves, white leggings and no shoes. She really was beautiful.
She caught me staring and flashed me one of the prettiest smiles she had.
"I didn't say to listen with your ears now, did I?" She continued, "Close your eyes and breath."
Facing forward, I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath. I smelled freshly cut paddy and wet soil. How was this hearing anyway? I didn't get it. Then it hit me.
I don't know if this is only from my tribe but I remembered that we were told in our younger years how that smell of paddy in the air is its way of crying out in pain.
Even as I remembered this, I still didn't get what Rem was describing. How did this mean danger? I started to open my eyes, thinking of asking her what she meant when I saw red, all around me. The pretty blue skies turned red, the fields were red with fire and I could hear screaming all around me.
My first instinct was to grab Rem and run to a safe place. I turned to my left and saw her crouched over, on her knees on the ground. I ran to her side and tried to get her to look at me. The moment she did, I recoiled and fell back in surprise. Her face and body were stained with blood. There were gnashes all over her as well as a huge open wound on her head and waist. She was screaming in so much pain and grabbed my hand while screaming her lungs out.
"HELP ME!"
I sat up; gasping for air and trying to calm my heart beat when I heard a voice to my left. "Bad dream again?'
Rem. She was sitting at the edge of my bed calmly looking at me.
"Yes. It's more frequent and disturbing these days." I said, calming down.
"Well, you deserve it."
Huh?
"You said we would go together didn't you?!?" She shouted, her voice filled with rage and spite.
