Today is a tired day
Where my eyes tend to linger
On people and things for a little too long.
It's hard for them to look away.
They are almost mesmerized
By the little things
That go unnoticed on other days.
The way his lips twitch
When he says certain things
The way her feet shuffle
When she's asked a question
She doesn't know how to answer
On these days
It is difficult
To keep my eyes open
Especially when
The center of our universe
Is gleaming through the clear air.
It is hard to describe
The feeling that comes
When this blanket of heat
Reaches the apples of my cheeks.
It seems as if all the wonder in the world
Has been compressed
Into the size of a sheet of paper
And gently placed upon my skin.
Sometimes i try to close my eyes
And drift off to sleep
But I can never quite get there.
I like to believe
That the universe
Is keeping me awake
So that I can enjoy
Her presence
To the fullest extent.
She doesn't want me
To dream of things that could be
When everything I could ever want
Is right in front of me.
It is on these days
That i feel happy
To be loved by the earth
Even if only by the earth.
