I couldn't take the intensity anymore so I turned my head away facing the wall. I could still feel the intensity of his gaze boring holes at the back of my head, but I just couldn't bring myself to look at him yet.
Even though I had not met him before, or I couldn't remember meeting him, still the idea of him still reminded me too much of home and everything I had lost and that wound was still too raw right now.
I heard him talking to the inspector " can I have a few minutes alone with her?" The inspector sounded distrustful when he asked " and how exactly do I know you're who you claim you are?"
Even I could hear the amusement in his voice when he replied " just how good are you at your job? From her body language, does she seem threatened by me ? Just a couple of minutes, I want to the some private conversation ".
The inspector walked to my bedside, I turned to him and trying to catch my eyes he asked " is that alright with you? If you're uncomfortable with it, I'll stay". I tried to give him a reassuring smile. From the look on his face, it probably wasn't very reassuring, but I mumbled " it's fine. I want to talk to him too."
He nodded and looked in Matt's direction, " let's go" then he turned to me " I'll be just down the hall, yell if you need me". I nodded.
When they had cleared out, I turned back to Cerball. He still had that intense look in his eyes. He said " alright tell me what happened and how you're here without my prior knowledge ". I tried to give him a blank stare " the inspector is right you know. How do I know you're who you claim to be? It's kind of convenient that you claim to be someone I can't prove you're not".
He just rolled his eyes " do you want me a question you believe only Cerball should know? Would that satisfy you?"
I took a deep breath " as a matter of fact yes. What is Cerball's favourite saying to my father?"
His eyes seemed to blaze for a moment. I blinked and it was gone making me wonder if I imagined it. But he said
" he who thinks great thoughts makes great errors. Your father has always been somewhat of a worrywart." He had a fond smile on his when he asked " how is he?"
I couldn't help it, the relief of finding him and the strain of everything that has been happening I just broke down. I was sobbing so hard I couldn't breathe. Then he sat on the edge of the bed and put his arms around me " talk to me, what is the problem?"
I managed to choke out " gone. They are all gone. My father *hiccup*, my mother, my brother. All gone. "
He seemed to go still as a statue at first, then he let go of me as his whole body seemed to start vibrating. I saw his eyes turn gold before he closed then and turned away from me. The vibration seemed to continue for quite sometime. He had seemed so human when he walked in that I had almost forgotten he was a werewolf.
When he seemed to have the vibration mostly under control, he turned to me and I saw that his eyes were still blazing gold. His voice sounded guttural when he uttered one word "how?"
I only had to choke out " Lorcan". He began spitting out expletives so fowl I felt like I should close my ears. I knew that if not for the present circumstances, he would never he such words in the presence of a lady.
He seemed to be getting even more agitated and I was getting uneasy. Being stuck in a room with a werewolf who has lost control is going to be very bad for me. Especially considering I can't just call the inspector to come and do something about it. If only I had magic, but I had to clamp down that thought. That's a can of worms I don't want to open now with everything else going on.
So I quietly called out knowing he would hear " please try to calm down. If you loose control and hurt me, I can't exactly heal". He closed his eyes again and seemed to be fighting for control again. He was muttering something, and with a slight frown, I had to listen very hard to hear " I warned Brian, but he is just so damned stubborn. I told him he was mistaking his priority. But does he listen? "
I couldn't take it anymore so i snapped "Cerball ! focus please. I need your help right now "
He blinked and seemed to tune back in, then he frowned " how exactly did you get here and how did you get involved in an accident? How did you survive?"
I stared down at my hand " it was the night after my birthday ball. I was feeling restless and didn't quite want company. I snuck out to the gardens and I guess I lost track of time. On getting back to the house, I just had the feeling of something now being right and decided to enter stealthily. I was already on the first floor when I heard the noise. This alarmed me and I decided to go get my father. When I reached his room, I saw him lying on the floor. There was soo much blood. I wanted to scream but it got stuck in my throat. A sound in another part of the house made me realise that the men who did this was still around there somewhere. I moved to father's side and realised that he was barely holding on. He opened his eyes when I called his name, he gave me instructions on how to open the portal, told me to find you when I get to the other side, then he died in my arms".
I came to and realised that the tears had started running again. I looked at him and realised that he also had tears running down his cheeks. I lost my father, but he had lost his closest friend too.
I met his eyes and the intensity was back in them. He asked me " was that all he said?" Which reminded me of something " he said that I should tell you that Lorcan has literally made a deal with the devil."
I opened my mouth to ask him what it meant when I realised that he had frozen again and was as still as a statue. I heaved a breath. This can't be good.
So that's another update and that really is the longest I have written. Please read, comment and vote. Thanks.
