"Cerball? Cerball! " His gaze snapped to my face " what does that mean?" He just shook his head. " I have to get you out of here. Just give me a few minutes to get the doctor in charge of you to get the proper discharge papers. Would have just taken you but that would just cause more ruckus."
His very odd behaviour was beginning to scare me. It is starting to seem like I relaxed a little too soon. But I had to remind him " what of the inspector? I don't think he would just drop the case. He seemed quite determined to find out where I was coming from and where I was going."
This just seemed to put an even more grim look on his face, but all he told me was " leave that to me".
I didn't have to wait very long before I heard voices in outside the door. I could hear an unfamiliar voice I assumed was the doctor, the inspector, and another voice I'm guessing has to be Cerball, but somehow he sounded different. He sounded very intimidating. Like someone who was used to giving orders and expected them to be carried out or face consequences.
The door opened and in walked an average looking man in a white coat, the others trailed in after him. He came to the side of the bed and tried to give me a reassuring smile, but he was failing and his eyes kept darting towards where Cerball was standing looking stoic. Even though they didn't know what he was, they couldn't help but react to that feeling of danger in the in the air. It's so palpable that you can almost taste it.
The doctor pressed a device I remember seeing as a stethoscope somewhere to my chest, after a few moments he removes it then studied the monitor beside my bed. He turned to Cerball and the inspector " everything seems pretty normal, what she suffered from mostly is shock and the temporary coma helped with that. Her physical injuries are very superficial, so I don't see why I can't release her if she wants to go home. I'll go prepare the necessary documents."
After the doctor left, the inspector spoke up " I still have a few questions that need answering, like where was she coming from at that time of the night in a wear?"
Cerball looking him in the eyes shrugged, "she has a bad case of somnambulism." The officer looked skeptical when he asked " sleepwalking? Really? Why then was her dress almost shredded?"
Without missing a beat he replied " she must have walked through a few bushes. I don't see what the use of this is. She didn't commit any crime, infact she was the one hit yet somehow you're here investigating her?The officer looked indignant " I am just doing my job" Cerball merely raised an eyebrow " if I'm not mistaken, your job is to serve and to protect. So who exactly are you protecting right now? They seemed to have a staredown for a while the the officer heaved a breath " I need a number to cal if I have a follow up."
Cerball just dipped his hands in his pocket and gave him a small card. He took it and turned to me, "get well soon Orlaith". All I could do was nod, then he stalked out.
We didn't have to wait for long before the door opened once more, when I looked up it was the nurse Lily this time. I guess the doctor wanted to avoid Cerball, but isn't it cowardly of him to send a woman instead? The nurse the me a small smile " time to go honey, let me just take this out." She disconnected the needle from my hand and I looked up to realise that the clear bag is already empty.
She said I could keep the hospital wear because my dress was in no condition to be worn ever again and She would go try to rustle up something I could wear on my feet. I was really grateful for that because I don't know how I would have been and to walk out with my head held high in something like that. She came back a few moments later with a slipper that had a covered front and said I shouldn't bother trying to return them. I thanked her.
I stood up from the bed and the room
Seemed to spin for a moment then I felt hands stabilizing me. I looked up and saw Cerball looking down at me with concern " take it easy, you haven't been on your feet in days and you've been on liquid diet". I nodded and squeezed his arm when I felt stable enough. We made our way downstairs with Cerball leading the way and me behind him. We got outside, the sun was high in the sky by now, he led the way to a black car, I don't know the name or model because I never really paid attention to that part of my training. I always thought I would have more time.Cerball opened the back door for me and got in at the other side. There was a man sitting in front whom he called Henry and told him to head for home. I was starring outside the whole time admiring the scenery. We passed a lot of houses and some shops, then we seemed to be going towards the outskirts of whatever city we were in as there were a lot of greens.
Not quite long later we arrived at a giant gate that had some type of fence attached to it. The gate seemed to open by itself until I looked at Henry and realised he has some kimd of remote control. We drove in and I took a look out through the windows, I couldn't see either side of the fence which means that the compound is quite large. Not as large as my father's but close and that's saying something sonsiderimg my father's is practically the people's capital. I realised I didn't know so I asked him " where exactly are we?"
He gave me a small smile " Wichita, Kansas ". That sounds familiar " it's in United States of America right?" He nodded " the very same".
I took a look around again " why so out and why so big?" He raised an eyebrow " I needed the running space, I can't exactly have that in the heart of the city without nosy neighbours. But I also needed to be close to a big city in case I need to disappear. "
The car had gotten to the house by now. I came down and looked around, the house is almost a mansion. In fact I'm sure it is a mansion. I turned back to him " you sure are living large, do you really need a house this big considering it's just you?"
Now he had that small smile on his face again " oh princess, I don't live alone, I live with my son"Now I had a slight frown on my face " son?" He was full on smiling now " did I forget to mention it?"
And that's another chapter,I must be on a roll. Please read, comment and vote. Thanks
