'Aliya? Hey, Aliya, wake up.' I blinked open my eyes to find Lucas' face right in front face. I shoved him off and sat up, clutching my pounding head.

'What...what happened?' I groggily tried to stand up but lost my balance. Lucas caught me before I hit the ground. I mumbled a small 'thanks' as he steadied me and made me sit down on the bed.

'You fainted in the shop' he calmly explained. 'So, naturally, I panicked at first and was about to call the ambulance, however, I decided that calling a parent would be a more logical and appropriate solution, so I called my mom to pick us up.'

I looked around and noticed that indeed, I was sitting on Lucas' bed. It was a single, with a light azure coloured bedspread and bed sheet. 'You couldn't have called Alison?' I asked, feeling a little out of place.

'I would have, if your phone had not been dead' he smoothly replied, pulling the charger port out of my phone and handing it to me. I opened my phone and realised the time was 6:30. Wait, it's already 6:30?

I was meant to be home half an hour ago. 'Shit, shit, shit' I swore as I shot up and dodged past Lucas to grab my bag. '

'Where are you going?' Lucas asked worriedly, probably cause I looked like a headless chook running around his house. 'I was meant to be home half an hour ago' I replied, frantically trying to put my shoes on.

'I'll drop you' he immediately replied, a steely look taking over his face. He knew what Alison was like. I gave him a grateful smile and tried to shove my foot into the goddamn shoe. Today was not a good day.

After finally getting the fucking shoe onto my foot, I ran out to meet Lucas in the car. Jumping in, I told him to step on it as I tried to make myself look presentable and come with an excuse as to why I was late.

Ten minutes later, at extremely high speeds, (it's honestly a wonder how we haven't died yet), we arrived in front of my house. I stumbled out of the car, thanking Lucas and running to the entrance. I stopped in front of the door to smooth down my hair and fish the keys out of my pocket.

I inserted the key and turned, praying for the door not to make any noise as I crept inside. Obviously, the universe hates me as the hinges creaked. I cringed and waited a solid ten seconds before moving another muscle.

Alison didn't seem to hear me so I quickly and quietly shut the door and tiptoed to my room. I reached there without getting caught so I dumped my stuff in the corner of the room and flopped onto the bed.

The day's events flooded back at me. How boring school was, Lucas' comments on Noah, those feelings of being watched.

It had gotten stronger now. Before, it simply felt like I was being gazed on. Now, it feels like someone is burning their eyes in to the back of my head. Unconsciously, my eyes flited around the whole room, just to see if everything was normal.

Something wasn't right. The papers on my desk were always neatly filed away and never out of order. Now, the papers were everywhere and all out of order, as if someone was looking for something.

Just then, my eyes picked up on a coloured piece of paper lying in the middle of a sea of white. A small corner was sticking out. As I moved closer to pick it up, a knock on the door startled me.

'Aliya, are you in here?' came annoyed voice. I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that the only person who talks as if they are always annoyed is Alison.

Alison is my foster mom. She was been since I was a child and I was entrusted to her after my parents died, as she was the younger sister of my mom.

Alison doesn't like me at all, so I guess it's safe to say I don't really like her either. From an early age I've had to take care of all my needs and occasionally, her needs as well. All those years of resentment can really take a toll on a child.

'Yes, I'm here' I replied, already knowing where this conversation was going. 'Well, if you're here, why isn't the dishwasher loaded? Why isn't the living room vacuumed? Why are you just lying around, not doing any chores?'

I felt like punching her face until all her perfect teeth fell out. I've just about reached my boiling point with this asshole. I jerked the door open and put on fake smile before answering in sarcastic voice 'Yes, Alison, I'll begin right away.'

Alison was always drunk so she couldn't tell if I was being sarcastic or not. She narrowed her eyes at me before shuffling away to drink herself into a stupor again. I quietly shut the door and deafeatedly walked back to the foot of my bed and sat down.

Rolling my sleeve up, I traced my finger over a long jagged scar taking up most of my forearm. It used to be an ugly purple color before toning down to a disgusting green. In fear that someone might ask how it got it, I always made sure it was concealed.

Tears threatening to spill over my cheeks, I blinked them away when the memory of how I got the scar surfaced.

I was 12, and had just returned from school after a session of ding-dong ditching with Lucas. Grinning stupidly, I waved him goodbye and walking into the living room, not at all prepared for what I was about to see.

There was Alison and some other guy, making out on the couch. I gaped at them for ten seconds before snapping out of my daze and dumped my bag on the ground. The noise was loud enough for them to stop sucking each other's faces and shift their gaze to the living room entrance.

The guy's eyes widened before he turned to Alison and snarled 'you didn't tell me you had a child!' Alison's face turned pleading as she replied with 'she's not my child, she's my dead sister's, I can send her away but please don't leave, I love you.'

The guy wheeled around to face Alison, who looked like she was about to burst into tears. 'It was never meant to get this serious' he murmured before grabbing his coat and marching out the door. Alison burst into tears.

I awkwardly walked over to her and placed my hand on her shoulder. Her head snapped up and she glared. 'You' she said, her voice dangerously calm. 'You did this, you bitch. If your mother hadn't died, my life wouldn't be in shambles right now.'

I doubled over. She knew my mother's death was a sore subject for me. 'Don't you dare blame it on my mother' I lashed out at her. 'If she hadn't gone and gotten her pretty face killed, I wouldn't have to deal with this heartbreak or you' she yelled back.

I stepped back in shock. I knew Alison hated me, but that just froze me to the bone. I didn't hear her snap get out, so she grabbed a beer bottle and threw it at me. Instinctively, I raised my arm to block the bottle.

It ended up shattering on my arm. I cried out in pain before sprinting away to the bathroom. Slamming the door, I leaned against the door and crouched, tears dripping down my face.

Brought back to reality, I looked out the window to see that it had become dark. Getting up to close the window, something flew into my hands. It was the piece of paper that I was about to pick up before.

I opened it and gasped. The paper read 'Aliya, honey, I'm always there. If you want to talk to me just say my name...'
