Nephilim. They were the offspring of the sons of God. Who were the sons of god? I assume they are none other than the angels which watch over our world. But how does an angel give birth? Aren't they supposedly all male? Is my grandfather an angel?

I sensed the queen pick up on what was going through my mind and gave me a tight-lipped smile once more. 'All in good time my dear, all in good time, you will know everything.'

I was still a little weary of the information I received. Well, it's not everyday you learn your father is or was a nephilim and you're the daughter of one. 'Wait till Lucas hears about this' I murmur to myself.

Everyone's eyes snapped up at me, glaring. I shrunk back, uncomfortable and a little bit afraid. What did I do? Am I now illegal? 'You can't tell anyone. There are many dangers that lurk in the mortal world' a voice quietly said.

I looked from side to side, trying to locate the source of the voice. None of the faces I met seemed to match the voice heard. Then, from the corner of my eye, I saw a figure step into the light of the room. He was built like a jock, however, the way he presented himself, he didn't seem like one.

'Ah, Denzel, you've finally decided to come out of your chambers. Glad you've finally come to your senses.' snapped the queen, a sneering look overtaking her otherwise poise features. The jock – Denzel sighed, almost like he was used to this treatment.

'I wanted to....check out the newbie.' I sent him a slight glare. I am capable of handling this new information....no, not really. Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I am a daughter of a nephilim.

'I suppose I can take her back to Earth and assist her with the mission Jarquel was supposed to complete. Old man, couldn't even get rid of a pesky necromancer' he smugly said, eyes gleaming at me. Now, I may not have known my father, however, that didn't stop the rush of anger that surged through me.

I used all of my self-restraint to not go and slap the smirk right off his perfect face. How very dare he? He kept gleaming at me, seeing how far he could rile me up before I reached my limit.

'Denzel, that's enough. You know very well that Jarquel was the most capable and well-trained nephilim out of everyone here. We just didn't expect him to get....distracted' Raelynn trailed off, looking pensive.

It didn't take a genius to figure out that the distraction was my mom. Great, now I'm the offspring of a forbidden romance. Now I understood why everyone seemed slightly weary of me. I'm not supposed to exist.

Discovering this, I shrunk back slightly, unsure of my fate. 'Darn right' Denzel supplied, glaring smugly at me. Okay, this guy is seriously to make consider murdering him. I don't mind a couple of dead bodies on my record.

I was about snap back a witty remark when a loud bell went off, vibrating the whole room. 'The warning bell, there's about to be an attack' uttered the queen, anxiously. 'Do not worry my queen, this attack we will be able to hold off...surely' the guards at the foot of the door announced.

The queen still looked slightly worried but dismissed them to join their ranks. 'Lastenor necromancer attacks have become more frequent now. They are getting stronger, we almost lost last time they attacked, who knows how strong they've gotten now' the chancellor muttered, distressed.

'We don't have enough soldiers' Denzel proclaimed aloud, that smug smile still lingering. 'We have put forth our best soldiers, they can surely counter the attack' the queen argued. 'Mam, I don't mean to be rude or anything – I snorted – but the amount of soldiers we lost in the previous attack was an innumerable amount.'

The queen relented, seeing that Denzel was clearly right. 'What do you propose we do then?' she replied, an eyebrow raised. 'Well, seeing as the daughter of the famous Jarquel is here, why don't we let her show off her powers?'

And once again, the spotlight was back on me, not in a good way. I gulped before replying 'can't you all use your powers to help save this place?' Denzel laughed in my face, what a sweetheart he is, before countering with 'what, scared you're going to end up like your dead daddy?'

Okay, that was the last straw. I rushed at him, intent on rearranging his face, when I smack bang ran into an invisible barrier. Denzel proudly smirked at me, which made me realise that he was probably the one to set up the barrier.

I mustered all of my anger and sent him the biggest death glare I could. His smile slowly disappeared and turned into bewilderment. Placing my hand on the barrier, I could slowly feel it getting weaker and weaker, until I could pass through. Everyone else, on the other hand, gaped at me in shock.

I glanced at Denzel and saw withering on the floor in pain, clutching his head screaming 'stop, please stop.' I immediately stopped. No matter how much I hated his guts, I couldn't stand to see anyone in pain.

'What, what did you just do?' the chancellor murmured in shock, wide eyes never leaving mine. 'I...I actually don't know' I simply replied. And it was the truth, I had no idea I could make people that much agonised. 'Your power is unlike anything I've ever seen' Raelynn replied, her eyes appearing a bit kinder than when she first saw me.

Apparently, causing people pain makes others look at you in a different light. 'I, honest to God, have no idea what I just did then mam, please don't shoot me' I added the last part as a whisper.

Raelynn smiled at me. 'But of course, it all makes sense now. Your father must have done the old enchantments to ensure you had some power, however, this power does not ring any bells.'

'It does to me' another voice announced behind me. I spun around to see Denzel clutching his head, however, no smirk on his face, only a stoic expression. 'This power is one of the oldest known to any nephilim; no one has had it for several years. You must be a very special woman to have obtained this power.'

For some reason, I could feel a blush forming on my cheeks. No way did Denzel just compliment me. And no way am I regarding him in a new light as well. I suppose he could be charming when he wanted.

'Thank you' I politely replied before questioning 'what power do I have?' He let out a slight chuckle before darkly announcing, 'Miss Mendez, you have the ability to power subjugate. In other words, you have the ability to reduce the powers of others.

Hello again readers! Okay, I'm not gonna make any promises I can't keep. New chapters will be up whenever I have finished them. I did mention this in the dedications chapter so I hope you all understand. I still only a high school student and teachers decided that homework would be a great pastime for high schoolers! Hip hip hooray for my life. Anyway, enough rambling, see you whenever I update next.

Peace out!
