Nadeen POV

"Ok did you guy all bring your gifts?" Lola asked Ty and I.

"Yeah." I answered

"Oh sh-t. We were suppose to bring gifts? I thought being friends was a gift." Ty said confused.

I face palmed and told him that he could say my gift was from the both of us. The three of us were all sitting on some roof that we were all familiar with. We ussaly come up here after school and stuff.

"I think I see him coming." I state looking at a figure heading our way.

We started to wave and Nate waved back. He climbed his way up to the roof we were all sitting on and sat crisscross.

"Happy Birthday!" Lola, Ty, and I said in a singsong voice.

Lola and I held out our presents to him and smiled. Ty sat there smiling too. Nate took them and opened Lola's up first. In the neatly taped brown box was a of at least 10 candies. He popped one in his mouth and thanked her. Lola smiled from his thanks for he gift.

He reached for mine and Ty's gift and opened the pouch the gift was in. He put his hand in and pulled out the a pin that had a random ghost scaring someone.

"Do you like it?" Ty asked him.

Nate stared at it for a second before looking up.

'I suck at picking gifts..'

A smile spread a cross his face. I smiled.

"You do suck at picking gift." He said looking at me and Ty who was sitting right next to me.

My face looked like this.

'He didn't hhave to say it though.'

"Take that back!" Ty yelled.

"No, no. You got the wrong idea. I mean yes you suck at picking gifts." He said waving his hands in front of him. "But it the thought that counts." He the put the pin back into the pouch and in to his pocket of his brown pants.

Wow, thanks for the encouragement Nate. This guy has no filter. Lola changed the subject to school which led to siblings, which finally led dads.

"So what's your dad like Ty?" I asked him, curious to find the answer.

"He's kind and really smart." He said with a smile. "But," his smile faded. "He was taken away to Garden town to work for rich people there."

"I'm sorry." Lola said sympathetically.

"I wish my dad was taken away to be a slave for some rich people." Nate said as he popped another candy in his mouth.

"Nate!" I scolded him.

"What!" He said. "My dad sucks butt. He's mean, rude, and drunk all the time. I wish he would just die."

"At least you get to see your dad. It's better than having a dad who left you and not knowing why. Waiting everyday hoping he'll come home but never does." I almost yelled with frustration in my voice.

'Why did I have to say that. Now I seem like a -itch' I thought regretting my words.

"I'm sorry." I apologize to Nate looking at the tiles of the roof.

"Nah it fine. Well all have to vent sometime." I said.

"Lola what's your dad like?" Ty asked.

"My dad? Let me think...Well he's always working in his office and talks about wanting to live in Garden Town. He also helps me look nice and not trash." She said.

"What about you mom?" I asked interested in the answer.
