Yutu- April 4019- Same Day

Rosie gets over the screams. Rosie gets over the voice telling her to help. Rosie gets over it.

But Rosie can't after that one girl. She can't forget the screams as the girl is dragged down the street, and into the large glass building.

The glass is shiny on sunlight and covers the entire building. Each edge is covered in shiny silver metal that hurts to stare at. The building is covered in glass for a reason, it allows everyone to know what happens to those who disobey or turn ill. It is your fault, your fault if you disobey, your fault if you get sick. Only your fault, and they want you to know the consequences.

After work Rosie slowly walks down the dirt street and towards that glass building. She peers into the glass and sees what she usually sees. Labs, like all labs. Except these labs are for experiments and torture.

Rosie looks for that girl with the black braided hair and sees no sign of her. They must have already disposed of her body.

No! Rosie would not let this silly sick girl get to her her. It was her fault, she was stupid and Rosie shouldn't sympathize her!

Rosie shakes her head, some blonde hair falling out of her bun and into her face. She tries to get rid of the girl from her thoughts.

Rosie turns away from the glass building just as they bring in another. This time its an old man, he has thinning gray hair and is very thin. His glasses are falling off and his clothes are disheveled, they roughly throw him onto the lab table.

Rosie shakes her head again and walks towards the dinner area.

They scan Rosie again as she walks into the food chambers. This time it is a cheerful mid-age lady, her bright red hair tied up in a fancy braid-bun. She smiles at Rosie and scans the the code.

Beep, beep. “You can go, darling” The woman smiles, her white teeth flashing in the setting sun and Rosie steps off the platform. Rosie walks into the large room and steps into line.

Everyone eats together in one large room. Families don't eat together, the ordering is by code, then age, then race, then sex.

The food is all powdered and packaged. Rosie always eats the same thing everyday, powdered salad, fries, and milk. One powdered oatmeal cookie for dessert.

Rosie grabs her packets and a small cup of water and sits in her assigned seat. She sits next to Mrs. Karent and two seats over from Nina Jury. Nina is the same age as Rosie and Mrs. Karent is 2 years older then Rosie. The seat beside Rosie is empty. That black haired girl usually sits there.

Rosie nods at both Mrs. Karent and Nina and pours her powder onto the plate in front of her. She take her cup of water and pours the water on top.

Rosie slowly eats and soon stands. The sky is dark when she leaves the food chambers. The cheerful red haired woman isn't standing outside the door anymore. Instead is another gruff man who barely speaks.

Rosie doesn't want to know what happened to the lady, she just quickly walks to her bed.

Each person gets a small room to sleep in. Except families. If you have a family you get a small stone house for the kids and spouse.

Those without families all live in apartments, or as the kids say “cubicles”. The rooms are small, holding only a toilet, a sink, a small bed, and a 2 drawer dresser, all in the same room.

Rosie quickly walks to her room, says a quiet goodnight to her neighbor, Robert, and opens the door.

Rosie changes into her sleepwear. A gray nightgown that is decorated in tiny pale blue flowers and slides into bed.

Rosie doesn't get much sleep. Another one sick that night.

Another one dies.
