It was raining the day Ji-ho met her, thunder crashing in the distance. Lightning struck on the ground, scaring the children in the classroom.
School was still in session as the storm passed, forcing teachers to close the windows and turn on the lights as the sun was covered by the dark clouds. Water trickled down the glass, making it hard to see what was going on outside. The only good thing about that school day was no P.E. in the blazing heat.
Summer was just around the corner as it was finally that time of the year where the weather was out of whack, constantly changing as the days go by. One day it was sunny and dry, the next it was rainy and cold.
Ji-ho stared out the window, sighing heavily as he counted the droplets that fell off the glass instead of paying attention to the teacher in front. He was never a good learner, probably because he was easily distracted by the little things. He never understood why school was so important, either. He wouldn't need it if his father was to hand him down his position as CEO of a record label anyway.
The student beside him nudged him with his elbow, breaking him out of his thoughts. His head snapped forward, finally looking at the teacher.
She pointed to the board. "Do you know how to solve this problem?" Ji-ho stared at it, reading it carefully.
He shook his head, looking away and out the window again. The teacher sighs and grabs her ruler, slamming it hard on his desk. The whole class jumps at the sound it created, that being scarier than the crack of the thunder.
"I want you to answer it." The teacher says. Ji-ho leans back in his seat staring up at her with his arms crossed.
"But I don't know how." He admits, shrugging only slightly.
"Well, whose fault is that?"
"Yours." The teacher scoffs, hitting his desk with her ruler again. The students struggled to hold in their laughs, watching as the two quarrel.
"What?!"
"You heard me," He moves his hand, gently and slowly pushing her ruler off of his desk. "You're a bad teacher."
The teacher scoffs then loudly yells, ordering him to leave the room. He happily stands, grabbing his bag and heading out of the class. He sits down on the floor with his back against the wall right beside the door, still able to hear what was going on inside the classroom.
"He's not wrong, you know?" A soft, high pitched voice breaks the silence, and he can imagine the teacher's nose flaring.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me." Ji-ho holds in a chuckle, snorting out loud; both of their attitudes were so alike, it was amusing. Thankfully, no one heard it as they were too busy listening to the argument slowly unfolding. "You waste our time teaching us things that we already know and won't need in the future, only to get mad at us for getting a bit bored with you? You do realize how annoying you sound, don't you?"
"That's enough, Miss Go. Join Mr. Woo outside if you must." He hears shuffling, imagining a fellow student pack her things.
"Gladly." Miss Go storms out of the classroom, dropping down to sit beside Ji-ho. He looks at her, slowly and unsure.
Once his eyes lay themselves upon her face, the world stops in that moment. The sound of the rain comes to a halt, droplets no long there. The school is completely silent, only the sound of his beating heart could be heard. He could feel the heat rushing up to his cheeks, not really sure why.
