Monday came a lot quicker than Ji-ho had hoped. He wished he could get at least another day to wrap his head around what was going on with him.
For some strange reason, he felt a distance grow between him and his love. She had asked him to come over the day prior, though he rejected the offer. He didn't feel up to it; dealing with the harsh words she would say about other people, including her mother would be too much to handle.
He sometimes wished she wasn't as cold hearted as she really was. Maybe then, he could finally place himself in her heart and stay there comfortably. He wanted nothing more than for others to accept her, though it was hard to do so with her attitude.
If she simply had the kindness of Mi Cha, could they--and himself as well--be accepting of her now? 'No.' He thinks. 'Hwa Young is perfect the way she is. Maybe I'm just sick. I'm not thinking right.'
"Ji-seok!" His mother squeals, breaking Ji-ho out of his thoughts. He looks at the two, watching as his mom throws her arms around his brother. "Yes! Do it! You two would look perfect together!"
"What's going on?" Ji-ho asks, confused. His mother breaks away from Ji-seok, a wide smile forming on her face.
"Your brother likes someone!" She celebrates, clapping while jumping up and down.
"That's it?" Ji-ho shakes his head, leaning against the counter. "Why weren't you this excited when I told you I liked someone?"
"That's because it's no one like Hwa Young." His mother says her name in disgust, eyes rolling at the thought of her. "The girl Ji-seok likes is beautiful both in and out."
He scoffs, shaking his head and looking at his older brother. "Who is it?"
"M-mi Cha." A blush crept on Ji-seok's face as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "I'm going to ask her to go out with me this Friday." Ji-ho felt his heart drop in his stomach, though he couldn't understand why. Maybe he was sick.
"Mi Cha? As in, Song Mi Cha? The one who's performing my song tonight?" Ji-seok nods, smiling to himself. Ji-ho nods as well, a sigh escaping his lips.
"She's not better than Hwa Young," He says, standing up straight. "But, I guess simple, basic, boring and annoying girls are your style?"
"Hey, that's not-"
"Mi Cha?" His mother calls, causing both of the boys to turn their heads. Ji-ho's heart drops further as he sees the small figure with hurt written on her face.
"T-the bell isn't working, Ms. Kim." Her voice breaks, eyes becoming glossier by the second. Ji-ho goes to say something, though stops once a tear escapes her eyes. She sniffles and wipes it away, forcing a smile on her lips. "I'll go and set up my stuff now."
Ms. Kim's hand comes up, slapping her youngest son upside the head. Steam blew out of her ears as she glared up at him. "You made her cry!"
"I didn't mean-"
"Save it," Ji-seok cuts him off, rolling his eyes at his little brother. "You and Hwa Young deserve each other. You're both assholes."
"I'm not-"
"Shh!" His mother slaps him upside the head once more before storming off. She ran after the crying girl checking to see if she was okay.
Mi Nyeo desperately tried to swallow her sadness, wishing the pain in her chest would just go away. She could take those insults had it been from somebody else, though it had to be from him.
She couldn't understand what she had done. She felt her and him were getting along considering the time they spent together just two days ago. They had been laughing with each other, sharing secrets with each other and even complimenting each other; however indirect or oblique it was.
