Chapter 15 -

Shafaq POV -

Three days had passed since the wedding shopping. I was very confused because I was not doing what I should be doing stop this wedding and get to Rehaan.

I can't live my whole life without him. My heart feels pain all the time, and I crave the calm and the serene.

It was my last night before the wedding, tomorrow was Nikkah. Our house was full of guests and I could hear the happy giggles of the guests, their happiness present in their faces. It was my mehndi ceremony and I was sitting on a decorated swing, wearing a traditional yellow dress. Fariah and my cousins were applying mehndi on each other's hands. My aunts, uncles and parents were talking and laughing and having fun.

But I couldn't see this as a happy moment in my life, my heart is restless,

Their laughter and joy were hurting me inside.

No. It is a happy moment, I am smiling. Then why am I afraid to blink and let my tears fall.

I gently blinked and tears rolled down my eyes, and I wanted to scream.

Standing up I wiped my tears and Fariah came towards me, "Where are you going Shafaq?"

"To my room, I'll be back in a little bit." I said with a smile.

"Okay." Rushing to my room, I was eager to cry. I wanted to lighten the burden I carried in my heart. I cried as much as I could, but it didn't do anything to lessen the pain.

Looking into the mirror I forced myself to be happy, pleaded with myself to stop the tears, begged for the pain in my heart to end.

But, I failed. I failed to keep myself happy because I worried about everyone else's. I decided to call the man, I decided to go after my happiness.

I called him and told him about Rehaan and I's relationship, and I asked him to help me. I have to do this, no one in my family help me so what other option was left, only to take help from a stranger.

He gave me his address, but I knew it wasn't the right time to leave, but of I don't leave now I'll never get the chance again. Everyone was gathered in the lounge, so I couldn't leave through the front door, wrapping a shawl around myself I snuck out of the back door.

I reached his home and he was waiting for me, "Thank you so much!" I said to him.

"No problem. He is inside, and he doesn't know anything, don't tell him that I helped you."

I nodded my head quickly as he left.

I went inside, and it was dark everywhere, it felt like no one was here. But I knew that the man wouldn't lie.

There was complete silence and I opened a door nearby but there was no one inside, I went to look in another room, but I was startled by the sound of breaking glass.

I was terrified, without making any loud noises I went to where the noise came from. I saw a man with a knife in his hands, moonlight was streaming in from the open window.

He was wearing a hoodie and his face was covered, there were cuts on his hands and drops of blood covered the blade of the knife.

I was very afraid.

"Who are you?" He asked when he noticed my presence. I was too terrified to speak.

"Who are you!" He said louder.

"Sha-aa-faq." The trembled words fell from my lips.

"Go away!" He shrieked dropping the knife.

I recognized his voice, I recognized him. "Rehaan!" I whispered.

He picked up the knife and came towards me, he was so close as he placed the knife on my neck.

"I said go away!" He murmured. My shawl fell away, and my mehndi dress came into view. Looking at me he uncovered his face and stepped backwards, his eyes never leaving me.

"Rehaan!" I yelled, hugging him.

"Why are you here?" He asked pulling away from me. His eyes were red, and I knew he was drunk.

"For you!" I said. He began laughing as tears rolled down his cheeks, "Rehaan, stop!" I begged.

"Stop! Who, me?" He shrieked, and then he began to laugh even louder.
"You stop Shafaq!" He shouted, pointing at me.

"Me? I'm not doing anything!"

"Liar! You're a liar! You're making me think that you are here for me!' He shouted.

"No, it's the truth. I am here for you my love!' I shouted back, the tears making their way down my face.

"No! You're here to show me that you're happy and getting married!" He shouted and squeezed the blade in his hand, blood gathered around his fist.

I tried to snatch the knife away from him, but he wouldn't open his hand, he wound it tighter.

"Please, please stop Rehaan! Please, don't do this!" He started to laugh again.

I couldn't bear to see him like this. I was trying to snatch the knife from him, but he pushed me onto the bed.

"Rehaan, why are you doing this? Why are you hurting yourself and me!" I yelled.

Abruptly he dropped the knife and moved towards me on the bed.

"I'm so sorry!" He whispered, his eyes filled with unshed tears.

Blood was flowing from the wounds on his hand and I quickly wrapped my dupatta around it.

He suddenly grasped my hand, I didn't know what he was going to do. Moving his head down he kissed my palm. I felt a wave of calmness as soon as his soft lips met my skin.

"I love you, Shafaq." He whispered.

I felt as though I had my life back, and he hugged me. His hands grasped my waist and his lips placed a kiss on my forehead. They began moving to my cheeks to my neck, I closed my eyes as he healed the wounds within my heart.

I found myself calm.

"I love you too." I whispered.
