"Nothing!" I slammed another book down onto the pile that had formed over the past four hours.

"Yeah, what she said," Jace said, placing his book on top of mine. "Alec, there has to be a better way to do this."

"Remind me why we are going through books again," Isabelle complained, flipping the pages of her sixth book.

"Because Valentine must want something from the institute and we have to find out what it is before he gets his filthy hands on it," Alec explained, then looking up to meet my eyes, "No offence, Clary."

"None taken," I shrugged, hopping out of my chair and walking up to the shelves with the thousands of books. We had come here everyday after school, until sundown, sifting through as many books as we could to see if we could find anything that Valentine would want. Something demon related.

"This is taking way too long," Jace sighed, throwing his head back and closing his eyes. I walked over to him and placed my hands on his shoulders.

"I know what your thinking and it is not an option," I said, massaging his shoulders gently, "We have a deal, as long as I am not doing patrols, you aren't either."

"Your impossible," Jace said, not even opening his eyes.

"You want to know what is impossible," Isabelle cried, closing her book, "I haven't seen Simon all week!"

"And I haven't had the chance to talk to Magnus either," Alec considered.

"That doesn't count," Nathan rolled his eyes, "he always sits with us at lunch."

"The point is," I state, "this isn't working for any of us."

"Agreed," Isabelle chimed.

"Do you have any better suggestions?" Alec asked, finally putting his book down as well.

"No, but I have an idea of where to find one," Jace said, his expression smile. I stopped rubbing and walked to sit back in my seat next to him.

"Do enlighten us then," Nathan scoffed.

"The school would have battle theory textbooks, right?" He said coolly, "Surely, we can get some direction from them."

"Great, more books," Nathan complained.

"It should only be a two person job, so Clary and I will go tomorrow," Jace suggested.

"Sure, why not?" I mumbled.

"Fine, but no making out in the library," Alec warned, "it freaks the younger kids out."

I said goodbye to everyone and blushed as Jace kissed me in front of the whole group, including my brother. Nathan and I then walked home and he did not stop asking about how Jace and I were going. The only reason he shut up was because I asked him about Amelia.

When we arrived home, Mom was waiting at the door and hurried us inside. Ever since the institute meeting she has been on high alert. She even considered hiring security guards for both Nathan and I. We had to remind her that we were capable of protecting ourselves, but we wouldn't have convinced her without the help of Luke. He was the one to bring up that we were able fend off the small pack of Raveners that attacked us a few weeks ago.

I never told her about the patrols either, I told Luke though. He went off at me for a minute or so and then calmed down, agreeing that mom should never know.

Our lifestyles didn't seem to shift much. Nathan and I worked on our homework until dinner was ready and we would join mom and Luke for dinner. After that, Nathan showered first while Luke helped me out with my leftover Latin homework.
