Swimming in the unknown (Male Octoling story)

Chapter 1 : How i got here

Hey.

My name is Red. I was called by this name due to the tentacles on my head. Well... i'm an octoling. But not as any octoling you see in the nature, no.

Because i'm a boy, as you could've guessed by my name.

Yes... Usually, if you're an octoling, you're a girl. But not me. For those who don't know how octolings exists if they're all girls, the answer is simple.

I've never seen Octo Valley by myself. The only thing that i saw from outside is out of the window of the laboratory

What? Which laboratory you ask?
You don't remember me mentionning a laboratory?

Well now you make a good transition...

The laboratory is where i live (duh). I know that i'm here because our leader, Dj Octavio, told me that i was the first male octoling that has ever existed. So i'm here so they can study me, learn how am i the only male of my specie, or if i have better reflex, skills, or strenght than other octolings.

I don't really mind all that. Besides, i'm cool with it because i'm not separated from my family. Because another thing that i didn't mention is that my mother is a scientist in this laboratory, and i also have a sister, Luan. She's the best-skilled octoling of all octo-canyon. Everytime i see her, she's serves me as my coach and teaches me some tricks to use with weapons. She comes often sees me when she finished her job, mainly consisting of protecting something that they call 'Zapfish'.

From what i've understood, these Zapfishes can generate a high amount of energy. I also learned that we've stole it from the inklings, because we needed them more.

I always thouht that it was stupid, we could just share them, because there has to be a lot of them. But anytime i talk about this to someone else, this person starts to get angry and tells me to stop thinking about it.

So this was my life. But a few months ago, we didn't get anymore electricity. When i asked Luan what happened, she told me that the Inklings has taken back the zapfishes. Electricity was getting more and more rare. But a few days earlier, electricity was back in the lab. I thought this day that everything was back to normal...

I have never been more wrong in my entiere life...

I woke up as i heard screams from the hallway. I saw the door open and saw my mom with a facial expression that showed fear, but when she talked to me, she seemed somehow calm.

-Red, dearie, you have to go. Quick. She told me.

-Why? What's going on?

-The agents are here, dearie. And they're splatting everyone on sight! You have to go! Now!

-But where would i go? And what about you?

-Just run wherever you can be safe. I'll have to take a few folders from my office, then i'll find somewhere in town. The Inklings must not find them. That's why i must take them with me. I promise i'll be safe.

Then i hugged her with all my strength, that she returned. It lasted a few seconds until she released me.

-Now run! She told me as i opened the window.

I runned as fast as i could until i've found somewhere safe. When i turned back, i saw the lab on fire. I started to shed a few tears but i couldn't stay now.

This is how i left the lab... In fire, without knowing if my mother survived, nor knowing what to do next. I've only had a normal splattershot and a head full of doubts.

I wandered for what seemed like hours until i got tired. Luckily, i've found a spot where i could rest. What fate had still in store for me? I'll discover it later. For now, i just want to rest.
