Chapter 11: Kiss and Tell

I should've known that happiness couldn't last forever.

As Bella and I neared the house, my gift picked up two more thoughts. Both were Volturi members. By listening to their thoughts I discovered their identity.

It was Jane and Aro.

"Hold on," I whispered to Bella though I knew there was no point. They must've picked up her scent a mile away.

"Edward," she whispered. "What's wrong?"

"The Volturi are here," I hissed quietly.

"What?" She said trembling. "But we didn't do anything!"

"We didn't do anything last time either Bella, but they came anyways."

"Why do they keep coming for us?" She asked sadly.

"I don't know," I replied, hating searing her upset.

"What do we do?" she asked me.

"We can't run. They probably already know we're here. We have to go meet them."

"What about Alice?"

"We can't call her now. If she hasn't already seen our decision to confront them, she might not even know they're here."

She sighed fearfully and I held her hand as we walked together to meet Aro and Jane.

"Edward. Bella. How are you?" Aro asked, as if he cared.

"We wouldbe better if you didn't keep bothering us." I responded angryily.

"Bella! I see you've forgiven Edward!" He said, ignoring my comment.

Bella nodded, looking at the floor.

"So why have you bothered us this time?" I hissed.

"You do not speak like that to your master!" Jane hissed back.

"Peace," Aro replied. "We heard that Bella is going out to town."

"Yes, she is." I said.

"I'm afraid that you broke our deal then, Edward," Aro said, faking sadness.

"Actually," a bubbly, pixie voice said, "We haven't."

"Alice!" Bella exclaimed,running to her.

"Alice! I'm so glad you could join us! But do tell me, why do you think that you haven't broken our deal yet?" Aro asked curiously.

"You specifically said that Bella could go into town as long as we were with her. Surely you remeber that," Alice said.

"Then I presume you weren't paying attention. I said that as long as both of you were with the human, she would be able to go out." Aro replied.

Jane remained quietly smirking.

Alice opened her mouth, but then quickly shut it. He was right, and we both knew it. None of us though, were willing to have Bella die. That simply wasn't happening.

"What do you want then," I hissed at him. Why does he have to ruin everyone's happiness?

"He wants her,"Jane said, pointing to Bella, "Dead."

"No." I said, as Bella said "Fine.

I gazed at her shocked. Alice had a similar expression.

"I can see where this is going to go," she whispered. "Edward and Alice are going to try to protect me and you two are going to fight back to try to kill me. I'd rather just die know than Alice and Edward getting hurt trying to save me and I die anways."
