Dark wind blows through the hall, extinguishing all light, and bringing a cold chill to the air. A dismal laugh flows out of the throat of a broken fairy, as she walks through a sea of frightened onlookers, including a child standing beside a crib. The child, no older than five, looks on with great interest, whilst slowly rocking the crib of her younger baby sister.

The fairy's cane taps against the ground, creating a hollow sound amidst the intense silence. People shift on their feet, seemingly terrified on this newcomer. The fairy's lips are blood red, and her jawbone's are sharp.

"Well, well," she chuckles, walking up the stairs to where the King and Queen sit. Her companion, a dark and beautiful raven, flies through the room, cawing.

"What a glittering assemblage, King Stefan."

The raven lands on the cane, acquiring the captivated stare of the child, still faithfully by her sisters side.

The Queen glances nervously at the King, frightened.

The fairy turns her humorous gaze towards the crowd, "Royalty, nobility, the gentry, and-" she pauses to laugh, and the raven caws with her. She strokes its feathers, before continuing, "How quaint, even the rabble."

Her gaze lands upon three small pixies, who stand opposite the child who turns her eyes from the raven onto the lady in black.

She sighs before staring at the King, "I must say, I really felt quite distressed not receiving an invitation."

Her raven squawks in agreement, and the child stops rocking the baby, concerned about what is happening.

"You're not welcome here." The King answers with a semi-frightened face.

The horned fairy looks down in a pout, before breaking into laughter, "Oh dear, what an awkward situation..."

The tension in the room is palpable, and even the child understands that something is not right here.

"Well, now that I'm here I shall give my gift to the new princess." She says, recovering from her laughter.

"No." King Stefan orders, but his wife interrupts.

"Why not Stefan, she came all this way."

The dark fairy walks over to the crib, where the baby lays. The child standing beside the crib doesn't move away, instead, she looks at the fairy in awe and wonder.

Her eyes find the eyes of the little girl, and she frowns at her.

"Well, why don't I give a gift to both your daughters?" She says, and the Queen responds.

"That...would be lovely, thank you."

The fairy smiles and starts to twirl her fingers in circles, "Listen well, all of you. The princesses shall indeed grow in grace and beauty, loved by all who meet them."

"That's a lovely gift," The Queen supplies, but the fairy is not done yet.

"Don't do this," Stefan whispers.

The fairy's game travels to a spinning wheel, "But, before the sun sets on Aurora's sixteenth birthday, they will each prick their finger on spindle of a spinning wheel, and fall into a sleep like death, a sleep from which they will never awaken!"

"Maleficent, please don't do this, I'm begging you," King Stefan pleads with her.

Maleficent tilts her head upwards, "I like you begging. Do it again."

The King glances at her uncertainly before she looks at the floor. Stefan gets onto his knees at looks up at Maleficent. The audience look at their king with disdain.

"I beg you."

Maleficent smirks, "All right. The princesses can be woken from their death sleep. But only by true love's kiss."

Maleficent turns towards the crowd, "This curse will last to the end of time! No power on earth can change it!"

She cackles before walking out, raven following not far behind.

The King went into a frenzy. Her decided to let the three good fairies, Knotgrass, Flittle, and Thistlewit, take care of the children.

The child, who's name is Y/n, was sad to leave her mother, and did not want to leave. The King forced her to leave anyways, also destroying all spinning wheels.

Heartbroken, Y/n left her family to live with her new aunties in a small cottage. She never forgot Maleficent or the raven. Nor did she forget how her own parents cast her out with three strangers.

The fairies were obviously not cut out for the task of raising two children, often forgetting the children's whereabouts. They didn't even know how to feed the baby!

Luckily, the starving child was under the protecting gaze of Y/n, who tried to tell the fairies that she needed milk. They ignored her, though, and she tried to find something for the baby herself. After failing to find appropriate food, she gave up and wept by the window, tried of hearing her sister's laments.

A soft flutter woke Y/n from her cries, and she was met with a beautiful raven holding a strange flower in his beak.

She hesitantly took it form the bird, and placed it in the baby's mouth. She watched with relief as the child suckled it and stopped crying.

"Thank you," She whispered to the raven, before rocking the babe to sleep.

Ever since that time, the raven and Y/n grew close. They cared for and protected Aurora, all the while playing and having fun.

Being given away to strangers and cursed by an evil fairy can do a lot to dampen one's spirit, but Y/n persevered.

The raven and Y/n became fast friends, always with each other every day.

Y/n, being older than her sister by five years, would be twenty-one before the curse came into effect, since it would happen when Aurora turns sixteen. She was too young to fully understand what would happen, but she knew it wouldn't be good.

When Aurora turned five, Y/n was ten.

They both had adventurous spirits, and Y/n would often take Aurora into the forest, along with the raven. Aurora gave the raven the nickname "pretty bird" whilst Y/n gave him the name "Handsome". She figured it was more regal and gentlemanly.

All the while, Maleficent grew particularly close to the sisters. They kept meeting her all the time. At first, Y/n was wary of the horned stranger, because she remembered the curse that was given by an evil fairy. But, she eventually forgot her wariness.

Aurora referred to her as their "Fairy Godmother", and Y/n let her believe that. After all, she didn't see the point in breaking her little sister's fantasy.
