I was awoken by the fear of not living a life without Gally and my eyes opened expecting darkness but the sun was shining down brilliantly. I remembered the horrid thing that had happened last night and I slowly dragged my feet over to Thomas' hammock and looked down at the empty material, I slugged over to Minho's hammock and did the same.
As I closed my eyes and remembered my first meeting with 'an asian looking boy' I laughed quietly and let the tears I'd been holding back push past my eyelids and I began to cry with my hands wrapped tightly around his hammock. I felt some arms snake around my waist but I could sense it was Gally and I didn't even bother to look at him.
"Hey (y/n) it's gonna be okay" He said his head resting on my shoulder, he pulled away and turned me around to face him.
"I just don't understand why they all had to go" I hugged Gally tightly and I felt his chest rise and fall deeply as he took a sigh.
"I know, but we can make it better" He held me back by my upper arms and placed his forehead against mine and then kissed me on the nose. "C'mon, let's get to work".
I wiped the few tears from my eyes and nodded, I heard the walls begin to open and I hopefully, for some reason looked over at the doors expecting to see them run through like they were just coming back from a normal run, same as every other day. But not to my surprise no one appeared.
I began to head towards the field until I heard Chuck's voice call out. "You guys! Look! I freaking told you!" I was more relived than I expected and I shot a look of joy at Gally but his expression did not match mine, if anything he was annoyed. I decided to ignore it and I ran towards the doors.
I got there within seconds and I let out a small sob of overwhelming relief. There they were, Thomas, Minho and an unconscious Alby.
Alby was lying on the floor, Jeff and Clint were already hovering over him, cleaning up a gash on his head. Chuck was the first to speak. "You saw a griever?" Everyone looked at Thomas, some gladers in awe, others pissed of and some were unreadable. Minho answered for Thomas and what he said astounded us all.
"He didn't just see a griever, he killed it"
..............................................................................
Obviously there were a lot of questions and a gathering was to take place.
We were all sat inside homestead the keepers were all stood around Thomas was sat against the corner watching, as were all of us as Gally spoke.
"Things are changing, there is no denying that. First Ben gets stung in broad daylight, then Alby. Now our greenie here has taken it upon himself to go into the Maze, witch is a clear violation of our rules." Gally scanned the room looking for some sort of acknowledgement.
I could see some were agreeing with him, I knew Gally had a point but he was the first who survived a night in the Maze along with Minho, that was a lot to take in.
"Yeah but he saved Alby's life" It was Frypan. Another good point.
"Did he?" Gally had a determination in his eyes. I definitely agree with that point more, Alby was barely breathing when he came back, who knows what pain he's going through.. Maybe it would have been better to just, leave him out there. "For three years we have coexisted with these things-" He paused for affect. "-and now you've killed one of them, who knows what that could mean for us?"
I noticed some people were not seeing Gally's point of view and I heard someone whisper behind me. "This shuck idiot is out of his mind" It filled me with rage and I knew I had to stand up for Gally, but I decided to do it subtly.
I stood up and noticed Newt eyeing me up. "(y/n), what are you doing?"
"Newt please may I speak" I was sure that I needed to support Gally and I stood next to him.
"Okay fine but I don't think Gally's done talking" Newt spun a small knife around in his hand and jerked his head towards Gally.
"No it's okay Newt, I wanna hear what she wants to say." Gally patted me on the back and then gestured for me to continue.
"Look, Thomas has killed a griever, I don't know how he just did. He may have brought Alby back, but who knows whether or not that was the best decision? Alby might never be the same now, what if having the thought of him resting in peace is better than having him convulsing and screaming and being in agony all day." I noticed this got some disappointed looks from some of the Gladers. "Grievers have been known to kill, no, rip apart gladers overnight. So what's stopping them from coming into the Glade and ripping all us apart as revenge cuz Tommy here decided to be all badass like a stupid shuck face!"
Newt grabbed my arm and looked at me sharply. "Calm it (y/n). We get your point, take a seat" I realised I was getting to riled up and took a seat as Newt told me to. "Okay thanks Gally but I want someone else's opinion. Minho, you were out there with him. What do you think?"
Minho cleared his throat and stepped forward he glanced at Thomas and then at Gally and I. "Look I get what Gally and (y/n) are saying but when I left Alby and ran away like a stupid slint head this shank idiot stayed around to help him, I don't know whether he is brave or stupid but whatever it is, we need more of it. I say we make him a runner."
The room erupted into comments and disagreement claps of sarcasm and joy. So many people had so many different ideas about this boy. Gally seemed to rise slightly at this and he glared at Thomas, ever since he came up I know they've hated each other.
"Look if you wanna throw this newbie a parade then that's fine! But I've been out in that maze, I've been stung and I'm telling you it ain't pretty so if you all wanna go dancing with those creatur-" Gally was suddenly cut of by a loud siren, one that seemed familiar, it only hit me what it was until Newt looked over at the door and I knew straight away.
