Asaíra's part of the middle class in a land where status is all that matters. But love causes her to break all the rules with great consequences. Once her King chooses to use her mistake to his advantage, Umærium has yet to feel the wrath that Asaír...
We all laid around lazily in the ship. I had my feet propped up on the couch with my hands behind my head. Ramona sat as stiff as a board with her knee bouncing up and down. We had left all our lodging items in the house. Ramona had used one of our gadgets to hypnotize a human into babysitting without being aware of what was really going on.
Orion had stated that we needed to start as soon as possible. We didn't even know where to start to say the least. But all changed once of our equipment identified a powerful surge of energy being emitted from the school we passed earlier on our way to land. All of the team had hovered over the reading. Orion's jaw had dropped open in awe.
"I've never seen anything like this," he mumbled to himself. "We need to check this out."
"Is that Asaíra?" Ramona asked hopefully.
"It could be," Orion replied. "No human could exert that kind of energy with any of their useless inventions." I scoffed. He was so quick to devalue the humans. "Set a course," he commanded. Ramona quickly obliged and began pressing dials.
I felt the ship lift from below us and we quickly moved into stealth mode. The exterior panels turned to reflect the sun's light to allow invisibility. We were not far from the school, and sure enough, as we approached we noticed the large beam of purple light being discharged into the sky staining its usual blue colour with a dark purple hue.
"It doesn't seem to be causing any damage," I observed. "And it looks vaguely familiar." Asaíra was bound to be here somewhere.
"Well then, let's take a look," Orion suggested with wide eyes. "It seems an ancient warrior may be present." Ancient warrior, huh, I thought. Ramona landed us at the school's entrance. There were a few vehicles parked in the yard and near the road with thin sheets of snow on them. We came off the ship just in time to meet two girls running towards the school's entrance. They immediately froze once they saw us.
"What the hell! She looks just like me!" the blonde one shrieked, pointing at me. Orion looked between us with a raised brow. But that wasn't what caught my attention. The brunette was the spitting image of Asaíra. I could tell the others noticed by the way Ramona was gaping at them.
"Läera?" Orion and Ramona looked at me questioningly. I was speechless.
"She looks just like your sister," the blonde pointed at Ramona, who blinked twice and shook her head.
"Séres, we don't have time for this. Let's go," the brunette once said and proceeded to pull her towards the school.
"You can't go inside there!" Orion yelled. He began running to catch up with them. I stayed where I was, wondering what it could all mean. A carbon copy of my own self, and possibly others? I'd heard about this happening where two worlds were so close it each, the static caused copies to appear. I brought my hands up to my face. Was I merely a copy? Nothing too special?
"Hey." Ramona touched my arm. "We need to go." I nodded and we ran to catch up with Orion and the two girls. They were approaching the doors when a shrilly sound invaded our ears and a large explosion threw everyone off their feet. I was knocked off my feet and collided with a nearby car, landing on the windshield. The glass shattered beneath me and I landed in the passenger's seat. I couldn't see clearly what was going on around me. I was beginning to go through some form of vertigo.
Through the car's windows, I was able to spot our ship on fire. The camouflage technology was destroyed and the top seemed to be missing completely. But I couldn't see anyone else. I opened the door and fell flat onto the concrete ground. Something sticky on my skin caught my attention. Blood was flowing from my arm. A small piece of glass was lodged in my skin. I pulled it out and quickly tore a piece of my shirt to wrap around it. My ears were ringing. I was still on the ground. A figure walked towards me. He stooped to my level.
"Where's Irvine?" his lips seemed to have asked but I wasn't sure. My vision was blurred a bit and the ringing in my ears was getting louder. I stared at the figure that towered over me, but I couldn't make out his face. He must have sensed that I was not able to help him, so he walked off. And then everything went dark.

The blast had sent me and Séres right through the school's doors. Luckily, they weren't locked, so we tumbled on the hallway's cold floor. My head still hurt from hitting the door quite hard. The sound had echoed throughout the neighbourhood and I knew we'd be hearing sirens soon. I hoped we would. I was dragged here, so if things went sideways, I needed a quick exit.
I quickly pulled Séres to her feet and ran back to peer through the school doors. It was chaos out there. Those people who called us out were scattered across the parking lot, some strange looking vehicle was on fire and a male figure was making his way towards us. But I didn't have time to run around asking if they were okay. I didn't even know them.
"Time to go," I said and pulled Séres with me as we made a run for the library. We burst through the doors and found Irvine and Asaíra standing next to a huge circular tear in the air. The source energy seemed to have come from a sword that was floating in the midst of it. I had no clue what I was staring at, but there were trees swaying calmly on the other side. I took cautious steps towards it, intrigued.
"What was that noise?" Irvine asked with a panicked tone.
"S-something exploded," I replied, a bit dazed, rubbing my head.
"I thought I told you to stay inside the house," Asaíra scolded. She no longer resembled the calm yet serious being I thought I knew. Her face was hard as stone with an icy stare. Irvine gripped her locs, seeming stressed.
"We can't do this. Whatever's going on outside is making inside here very unstable," Irvine said and reached for the sword.
"No!" Asaíra yelled, snapping out of the death glare she was giving me. "We need to finish what we started." The image of the trees seemed to waver a bit.
"Well then just run through and come back," Séres suggested. I turned to look at her but noticed a red liquid running down her arm. "What?" she asked when she caught me staring and looked down to inspect for herself. She frowned. "I don't know how I got that," she told me.
"It's not going to hold," Irvine warned. The portal outline wavered a bit when the doors to the library burst opened. In walked a familiar brown-haired boy. I frowned.
"Jacob?" I called. His eyes were trained on Irvine.
"You," he seethed. Séres and I exchanged looks. Jacob's hands were clenched at his sides and his face displayed plain anger. He seemed malicious, to say the least. But his glowing red eyes was what scared me the most. Irvine raised a brow.
"Who is this?" she asked, pointing at Jacob.
"He's... a friend of ours," Séres replied. She walked towards Jacob and placed a trembling hand on his shoulder. I stayed where I stood and watched. He didn't seem right. Pale skin, blazing eyes, and quivering lips. Was he on drugs or something? Probably some strong hallucinogens from the way he seemed to glare at Irvine. Jacob shoved Séres aside roughly and walked with heavy steps to Irvine. My eyes widened as his hands began to transform to claws.
"The evil one," Irvine said mostly to herself but we all heard, and she beckoned him forward with a smirk. My left eye twitched. It was Jacob all along?
