"Alyssa! Are you okay?" I heard a voice call.
I felt myself slowly drift out of unconsciousness and back into reality. I kept my eyes shut though; it felt like my eyes had been sewn shut, and it was impossible to move them.
"Is she alright?" asked a girl's voice. "I didn't mean to...."
"Just stand back!" snapped a voice, the same one that had been calling my name seconds ago. "She just needs to space."
"Do you want me to call my mum or....?" asked another voice, a boy's this time. I couldn't discern who's voice was whose, and I certainly couldn't open my eyes to figure it out.
"No, her father will flip if he sees her like this," said the other voice.
"I mean....it's going to be hard to cover it up....she has a gigantic bruise the size of New Zealand on her head...."
"Would you just shut up and help me carry her to the car?"
I felt hands grab my feet as another pair of hands grabbed me underneath my arms, and I felt myself being lifted and then carried somewhere. I heard the ring of a bell, and then the heat of the sun beat down on me. The familiar jingle of car keys and two short beeps made me wonder where I was going and what was happening.
"Damn, how are we going to get her in the car? We can't just lay her down on the pavement...."
"Just....just open the door with one hand, it can't be that hard," suggested the other voice.
I felt one of the hands under my arms left go and I suddenly felt my body fall to the ground. A sharp pain on the back of my head snapped my eyes open.
"AGH!" I screamed. "What just happened?"
Ashton was holding my feet, while Luke looked down at me, turned towards the car, his hand on the door.
"Oops," said Luke guiltily.
"Oops? You dropped her! She's going to have two bruises on her head!" shouted Ashton, setting down my legs carefully. I appreciated the action, and I rubbed my head as I sat up. We were outside the cafe, with a group of ogling girls standing outside, wary of getting any closer. A couple were taking pictures or capturing videos.
Perfect was all I could think. Now there's going to be a video on Youtube of my public embarrassment.
"I didn't mean to drop her!" shouted Luke, waving his arms. "It was accident!"
"Guys?" I said tentatively. They both snapped their attention to me.
"Maybe we can discuss this later?" I suggested, tilting my head towards all the girls.
"Oh....right. Yeah. Do you need help?" asked Ashton, holding out his hand. I took it and he hoisted me up.
"Um...thanks," I said, and he smiled before pulling out his keys from his back pocket and going over to the driver's side. Luke opened the back door for me and I climbed in. As Luke shut the door, I noticed a few glares from some of the girls. I had a feeling I wasn't going to get out of this situation unscathed.
Luke took shotgun, and Ashton revved the engine as we pulled away. He drove in a manic fashion, as if he were mad. I glanced at his face, and he seemed to be clenching his jaw. I wondered what had made him so angry. Luke looked back at me guiltily.
"Are you okay?" he asked tentatively.
"Yeah," I muttered, rubbing my face. I winced when I brushed my fingers across the area I'd been hit.
"We shouldn't have taken you out," said Luke sadly. "At least not in LA. We have a lot of fans following us around here."
"This is all my fault," broke in Ashton. Luke turned to look at him.
