The picture on the right is of Matt!

Chapter Two

“This entire week of my plan was wasted,” I complained, plopping onto the couch in between Matt and his friend, Jack. I’ve known Jack almost as long as I’ve known Matt because they became best friends years ago. Even though I’m Matt’s best friend, it’s safe to say that Jack is definitely his best guy friend. After all, Matt can’t talk to me about everything.

“Why?” Jack asked, not looking away from the video game they were both playing.

“Because I talked to Julian one time! And that’s only if you count my pathetic attempt to ask him for a pencil,” I replied, rubbing my hands over my face.

“I don’t see what’s so hard about talking to him,” Jack continued. I turned to shoot him a glare.

“You think it’s easy talking to someone you’ve liked for years?”

He shrugged and glanced over at me. “Maybe?” he said, sounding unsure of himself after seeing my expression.

“So if you went up to Elaine, you would have no problem telling her how much you like her?”

Jack’s head turned to face me quickly as he glared my way. “I don’t like Elaine! She’s the devil!”

I rolled my eyes at that. Sure, he thought this about Elaine, but I knew that was only because deep down he liked her. Elaine is literally the sweetest person I know. But for some reason, Elaine and Jack bicker like an old married couple seconds after being in each other’s company.

“Damn it! Thanks for having my back, bro,” Matt said sarcastically after losing to the other team.

“Don’t blame me, it’s her fault!” Jack defended.

“I did absolutely nothing. But since the round is over, what do you two think I should do next?” I asked, jumping up from the couch. I glanced between the guys, waiting for a suggestion.

“Julian’s on the soccer team with us,” Jack stated, as if that answered my question. I already knew Julian was on the varsity soccer team with Jack and Matt.

“Yes, and I plan on going to all his home games. That’s nothing new, really.”

Jack shrugged and returned to his video game. Obviously he had no other bright statements to offer.

“What if you asked Coach Wilson if you can help out with the team? Like be a water girl. Our last one quit,” Matt interjected.

My eyes widened at the thought of being able to personally give Julian something to drink in between the soccer games. Just the mental picture alone of him being hot and sweaty, showing off his toned legs, was enough for me to go berserk.

“Matt, you’re a genius! I knew I became friends with you for a reason!” I shouted, tackling him in a hug. He laughed and awkwardly hugged me back, while also trying to stay alive in his game.

I moved off of him and sank in between Jack and Matt again. I let my mind roam how I would go about getting a position as a water girl for the soccer team. Surely the coach would let me; I would be offering my services free of charge! I knew that the new butterflies in my stomach weren’t going away anytime soon thanks to Matt’s new idea for my plan.
