Chapter Nineteen
“Wow, I thought my life was complicated,” Robin commented after I spilled my guts to her and Elaine.
Elaine lightly smacked her arm, something she’s done quite often over the past week. “Are you sure about this decision?” Elaine asked, regarding the person I chose.
I nodded. “Yes, I am.”
Robin and Elaine smiled. “Well, good luck then!”
I laughed, already getting up to leave. I couldn’t wait any longer. “Thanks!”
Ten minutes later, I was standing outside a house, ringing a doorbell. As I waited for someone to answer the door, I fidgeted with the keys in my hand. Suddenly I was nervous beyond belief. But for once I was only nervous about their reaction, not about my decision. I knew I was making the right choice for me.
“Darcy!”
I looked down, my eyes landing on Kim and Charlotte. “Hey girls.”
“We’re going to the park! Are you coming with us?”
“You’re more than welcome to,” Gina added, putting a coat on Timmy.
“I would love to, but I have to talk to Trey. Is he home?”
“He’s in his room,” Gina answered with a smile. “Okay, let’s get in the car!”
“Bye Darcy!” Charlotte waved, followed by waves from the twins. I waved back before heading in the direction of Trey’s room. I stopped once I was in front of his door, trying to mentally and emotionally prepare myself for our impending conversation. Finally, I knocked on his door.
“Come in,” I heard. I let myself in, prompting Trey to look over at me in surprise.
“Darcy,” he breathed, sounding just as shocked as he looked.
“Hey,” I said nervously.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, moving so he was sitting on the edge of his bed.
“I came to talk to you.”
“Okay,” he replied, gesturing for me to sit in the desk chair near him. I shook my head, wanting to stand. It was possible that I’d have to pace to get out what I needed to say.
“I took some time last night to think about things,” I started. I glanced over and saw Trey’s eyes following my every move. That only made me more nervous.
“I didn’t want to have to choose between you and Matt because you both mean so much to me. But I couldn’t lead you both on while taking all the time in the world to figure myself out. I didn’t want to do that at all, so I made a decision.” By this point, Trey stood and walked over to me, though he kept a safe distance between us.
“You mean so much to me, Trey. You’re such a caring and loyal person, even if you don’t see that. You were there for me during a confusing time in my life, which I am grateful for. I truly believe you came into my life for a reason,” I said. Trey suddenly took my hands in his, which only made my words harder to say.
