Elkies Faction High School

Chapter 2

Startled, I pull my hand free. No no no, he's probably just a player, has a girlfriend, and gets a new one every week or so.. right??

"Sorry, uh I lost my balance there" Four murmurs, "sure" I say, trying to sound casual but there was a hint of nervousness that carried my voice.  We walked past several dark houses until we reach an isolated train station, looks like it hasn't opened in years, I think to myself.

"So tell me about Elkies Faction High" I ask nicely. "Well, it's basically divided into 5 factions, the populars, nerds, athletes, musicians and artists. We never really chose to have factions in the first place, it all happened because of Molly, my girlfriend. She's the principle's daughter. We all stay between our own factions, never interacting to one another or talking to each other. Although our classes are mixed, we keep to ourselves, if Molly spotted people of different factions together, she would get them into trouble." 

Oh of course, he has a girlfriend, silly me of thinking he liked me. Why would he? I bet Molly's pretty, nice and everything a guy would ever want. He talks about her like she's nothing, but maybe he's just trying to act casual around me?

"oh, that's interesting. So, how do you know what faction you end up in?" I question. 

"Ever since the faction system became a thing, Molly had some nerds design a test that everyone would take, this system got so popular that some other schools do it too, although I think it's pathetic really." 

After several questions, we headed back home and considering he lives a block away from me, he offered to pick Caleb and I up tomorrow for school. I thanked him for his kind offer and after telling my parents, I smashed out as soon as my head touched my pillow. 

Next day

I wake up by the annoying ticking noise my alarm makes every weekday. Without thinking, I move my hand to the direction of my nightstand and continuously drag my hand across searching for my alarm, until I hit something hard. What the heck was that?

My alarm keeps ticking until I manage to fully open my eyes in search of it. 

I find myself staring at a small round box, labelled with my name. Immediately, I grab hold of it and open it up. Could Four possibly get me something for my first day of school? 

I immediately jump off  bed, take a shower and get changed before opening the box. After the hussle I chose to wear a cropped banana yellow t-shirt, paired with some light washed jeans. Pulling my hair into a ponytail and adding some last minute accessories. 

As I quickly reach for the box, I notice the handwriting seems a little off. It's too formal to seem like anyone I really know, yet too detailed for a 18 year old. I simply reach for the lid when I feel something click, never before, something flows through me peacefully. I slowly doze off for a couple of seconds, wondering what's affecting my body to become numb and electric inside. Just as I fall into a pithole, someone knocks on my door. I quickly snap back into reality and stuff the box into my bag before answering the door.

There, standing right in front of me, is Four. 

But with someone else holding his hand, Molly.
