the basement.
that's where haeju was at the very moment.
staring down at a sobbing boy who laid on the ground, whimpers escaping his lips every once in a while.
the boy's shoulder shook aggressively with each sob as he attempts to crawl towards the stairs leading back to what haeju assumes is the main floor.
"hoseokie hyung...?" a very familiar, deep voice echoes, the boy pauses in his movements, silencing his sobs as he looks behind him, squinting at the darkness.
"taehyung-ah.." haeju realizes this was the hoseok the men were talking about from the earlier memory, was the boy hurt? haeju wanted to punch herself for the most stupidest question she has yet to think about.
because yes, the boy is definitely hurt. with his legs bruised up pretty badly, and his left ankle in an angle that it shouldn't be in. haeju could only assume he fell down the stairs into the basement, or rather, pushed down the stairs.
"tae.. they broke jiminie's legs.. the-they-" hoseok struggles to get his sentence out, stuttering as his voice cracks, face scrunching in agony as he breaks into tears again, gasping and whimpering for air his lungs are barely getting.
"hyung.. we'll be okay.." taehyung whispers, not having any other idea how to make his hyung feel better, was there any way to begin with? maybe. but he wished he wasn't locked in a cage in the corner of the dark basement. maybe then he could help his hyung up.
cage. taehyung was actually locked in a rectangular cage like an animal. haeju wanted to laugh, was there anything that could shock her at this so called 'orphanage' at this point? and from hoseok's reaction, it seems that being locked in the basement was a normal routine.
the room is silent for a while, the only sound being hoseok's sobbing as taehyung watched him from behind bars, eyes droopy.
'help.. we need help.. why won't anyone help us? how worthless are we? unwanted.. they shattered whatever hope was left of all of us.. help.. please help..'
haeju blinks, eyes shifting to taehyung, she definitely heard his voice, but he hadn't talked? his lips didn't move, and hoseok most definitely didn't hear anything either as he's most likely lightheaded from the way his eyes flutters close before snapping open again.
was she hearing taehyung's thoughts?
unconsciously, haeju's mouth opens without control as she lets out the words she's been dying to tell them.
"i'm sorry." she whispers, not expecting anybody to reply, or much less hear her.
until taehyung looks straight in her direction, hands gripping the bars tightly.
"then come back."
haeju steps back in shock as taehyung's deep brown eyes flash completely black and she swears his neck dislocates from the angle he stares at her, unblinking.
but as soon as she blinks, taehyung is back to normal, staring at hoseok's crippled form. and haeju lets out the breath she didn't know she was holding in. he most definitely saw her.
suddenly, the room is less dark when the door to the basement creaks open, a black-haired boy peeks in, and lets out a cry of relief he spots both hoseok and taehyung.
"h-h-h-hyung...! we have to go now, yoongi hyung and seokjin hyung are trying to stop them, they're gonna kill her and all of us, we have to go now!" the boy more or less screams as he runs down the stairs, standing on his tiptoes to reach the keys that he knew were hidden on top of the dusty shelf in the right corner of the room, he runs to unlock the cage, freeing taehyung who immediately runs to hoseok's aid. "what's happening, jeongguk? are we escaping?" taehyung hurriedly inquires, wincing as he gently touches hoseok's broken ankle.
before jeongguk could even answer, a scream tears through the orphanage and that was enough for hoseok to wipe his tears away and hold onto both jeongguk and taehyung as they hoist him up in a hurry.
maybe they can finally escape.
