"it's ringing again, that sound~"
she lets her eyes scan her surroundings, the familiar murky atmosphere welcomes her yet again as she hears the deep, smooth voice sing once more.
"a crack again on this frozen lake...~"
the voice echoes around her, yet at the same time she can tell it's coming from inside the shadowed building right across the street from where she stood.
"i dumped myself into the lake~.."
it was the same, dark lyrics that were stuck in her head, but gone when she awoke.
"i buried my voice for you...~"
"hello?" haeju mumbles into the phone, voice laced with sleepiness as she proceeds to slowly push herself off the bed in a lazy manner.
"haeju! i had a feeling you were still asleep, wake up and start getting ready or else you'll be late for work." a familiar, cheerful voice chirps happily and haeju resists the urge to groan, because how can someone be so chirpy in the early morning?
"alright, alright lisa, now bye."
"wait-" before lisa could continue with whatever she was going to say, haeju ends the call and proceeds to freshen up, getting ready for another day at the café while her mind lingers back to the dream she had, like she did everyday.
no matter how many times she heard that voice, no matter how many time she sees the place, she always gets a feeling of forlornness that can't be explained.
was she confused? yeah totally. did she know what any of her dreams meant? not at all. which was where the problem was stemming from, or at least part of it.
"didn't sleep well again?" her coworker, mark inquires with a tilt of his head and haeju simply nods, leading mark to give her his usual sympathetic smile, and haeju barely holds back a grimace.
she feels someone pat her shoulder and turns to look at whoever was behind her, she was met with a gentle smile from her other coworker, kihyun. "you'll get through it, how about sitting down and clearing your mind? you should ask for a day off." he suggests, a concerned expression appearing on his face as he turns around to look for their boss.
"i don't really need a day off, there's no point-"
"there is a point, you're barely getting any sleep and you have been looking even more down these days," mark states as he wipes down a table.
and this time, before haeju can even form a sentence back, "we're worried for you, so please just take a day off and catch up on some sleep?" mark asks, and haeju swears that mark's eyes almost stares into her soul.
"ugh.. fine, i guess." haeju gives in eventually, turning around to take an order from a couple that just entered the café, but she was pushed out of the way by kihyun.
"i already asked boss, you can go home now." he says simply and haeju's jaw drops, kihyun leaves no room to argue as he turns back to the couple and starts taking their order.
haeju lets out a sigh as she walks to the back room, pulling the uniform apron off before slipping on a warm gray sweatshirt.
she says a quick 'thanks' and 'bye' to both mark and kihyun before leaving the warm café and walking back to her homey apartment, which wasn't that far away because before she knows it, she's face planting on her bed, dozing off.
